Rating Countries for the Happiness Factor

I don't know exactly how acurate a happiness study can actually be - a lot of people who commented disagreed with Denmark being in first place.

But my country's number 10!

WOAHOHOHOHO!
And UK is nowhere to be seen...:P
Canadians are really happy though....except for me, never seen a cynical person. Everyone is joyous.
Well, today might have boosted up my country's happiness for a bit for now (since today's our independence day). No. 23! :sun:
Unless...this article came in 2006, so things might have changed since.

I remember posting another article about this on IRC. Let me see if I can find it...

Rawr. 23.

I think it depends on the person, or at least by state, but quite frankly I'm surprised we made it this far.

We like being miserable. It gives a good perspective on life.

What type of life if there is no joy?

Nah, you just take joy in being miserable.

It's not misery anymore if you do that. It's happiness.

I suppose you could take joy from acting miserable and appearing miserable, yet not really being miserable, due to the fact that you're suddenly joyful.

Wow, Apollo! You might actually start to understand us! Well done!
My city's local newspaper did an article about this study (I found out today) and got half their facts wrong. :(

Reporting of scientific studies in the media is notoriously bad. The vast majority of people have no conception of the meanings of statistics, and so they just get parrotted inaccurately over and over again.

For my local paper it's not just scientific studies. For example, the web site just put up a report of a hearing that was tonight (that I went to), and got half their facts wrong for that. And the spelling and grammar was terrible (Sure, I understand that they had to get this posted up quickly, but most of the mistakes were just stupid).

Local papers obey their own special rules. Ignoring them aggressively is the best strategy.
