The Golem thingy

Golem's Eye
Hi guys! Anyone else feel a little cheated when the golem went back to its master when it died? I did try to console myself by thinking that it was an excuse so they would witness Duvall's capture.

I don't feel cheated anymore; I figured that they could have just seen the name in the parchment if Mr. Stroud chose it to be that way. Anyone feel the same?

I think the Golem going to its master increased the suspense and it also ensured that every magician got to see who the culprit was for themselves, removing any doubt whatsoever. It also gave Nathaniel his two extra minutes of fame as the magicians got to see it was him leading the Golem to its creator. It was better for the story. Also, Stroud is a story teller and it is his job to make his books more interesting.
So no, I didn't feel cheated.

Good points. Guess I was just a little deus ex machina sensitive. Not saying that I consider that part of the story deus ex machina though. :)

Tbh the suspense in that part wasn't that big. There were sooo many hints that it was Duvall anyway, I knew it was him. He even said numerous times that the only people that knew he was going was Duvall and a few other people. I knew who he was going too anyway.

For me the suspense was thinking it was gonna fall on someone else keeping the villain alive drawing out the plot
I loved that moment, but it wasn't as great the second time round. But no, I don't feel cheated whatsoever. It really captured the moment and reinstated Nathaniel's/Mandrake's power and class in Parliament.
My username's pronounced Gran-ar-kid. Cheers to all who read this. Find me on Minecraft, Battle Dawn, Tremulous, Quizilla, and probably some other stuff I forgot about.

I believe it was that kind of buildup, where Nathaniel is in his finest moment, the combination knowing that he's back in favor, that he's making an amazing show, showing the commoners what they're being saved from, knowing that he was right, Whitwell and Deveraux were wrong, and a general sense of "YEAH!! WE DID IT! WHOOOO!!"
A dozen more questions occurred to me*.

*Not to mention 22 possible solutions to each one, 16 resulting hypotheses and counter-theorems, 8 abstract speculations, a quadrilateral equation, 2 axioms, and a limerick. That's raw intelligence for you.

I agree the mystery factor in Golem's Eye wasn't that great. Jane Farrar worming the information out of John Mandrake about the Prague trip really was the biggest give away. Oh well.
Actually, when the golem was en route I considered that maybe Stroud would throw in a complete surprise and have the golem's master turn out to be Jessica Whitwell! Now that would have been interesting. But nope.
