The Fionavar Tapestry

Book Discussion
I don't know if anyone else has read these books (the series was written in the 80s or something), but it's really awesome! It's written by a Canadian author, Guy Gavriel Kay, and basically combines a whole bunch of mythology in a Lord of the Rings setting with five very modern Canadians transported into the thick of things...
Anyone else read these? First one's called The Summer Tree, followed by The Wandering Fire and The Darkest Road...MAJOR recommendation here! There's magic, too, and a bit of humour...it's very adult literature (probably 16+ at least), and very complex, but I really loved it.

Nathaniel + Kitty Forever!

"It's two thousand, one hundred and twenty-nine years since Ptolemy died. I still wear his form. Who do you think's the lucky one?"
- Bartimaeus, Ptolemy's Gate
How funny is it?
It's mostly serious, but there is some humour in it...think of Lord of the Rings, add some people with a good sense of humour, and there you have it, basically.

A good series. The style in parts is a bit off, in my opinion, but a good series nonetheless. I have a copy of all three books in one book. I like the fact that the author is Canadian, I have to say there aren't very many good fantasy writers up here in the frozen North. :(
