They do, though. Sure, the minor details change, but it's exactly the same. Main character stumbles onto secret/mystery, collects small retinue inc. obligatory love interest, follows trail of clues to the shocking truth. The Big Bad Guy, cunningly hidden behind layers of minions, decoys, and suchlike, is always
exactly the same person in every book.
Also, please ensure your disbelief is thoroughly and properly suspended before reading, especially if you know anything about the subjects in question (I'm looking at you in particular, Digital Fortress {don't read Digital Fortress, I beg of you}. And you, Deception Point, though that wasn't *quite* as bad as the travesty that is Digital Fortress. Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code too, but for those it's rather more obvious that everything is made up and Brown isn't even trying to make any sense, thus making special provision to suspend your disbelief is less necessary).
Featuring over-use of a large array of tropes, included but not limited to (WARNING: Links may contain spoilers for everything ever and high risk of
Three Hours of Fascinated Clicking syndrome) the
Ancient Conspiracy,
Beethoven Was An Alien Spy, and the
Linked List Clue Methodology.
While we're on the subject, here's the entry at the same site for
The Inheritance Trilogy. Fantastic stuff.
