Specialization Course

General Discussion
Hello!

I'm about to write a Specialization Course of the three books in the Bartimeus-trilogy, and I could need some help to make it as close to perfect as possible.

My own chosen topic to write about from the book's, is the characters and how they develop troughout the story.

If you have any suggestions, notes (or maybe some good ideas), feel free to share!
I am going to write about 10 to 15 pages, so it does not need to be specificly about the characters, but also main event, and great quotes.

Everything related to this subject of matter is most appreciated!

Thank you very much for helping me out! :)
Hero's Journey. Teachers love Hero's Journey. :P In all seriousness, the best way to approach it would to maybe see if you can find something in common with the structure of each character's development; if that makes any sense.

I think your topic is too broad for 10-15 pages. I would focus just on Nat's development because we know the most about him. If you want, you could contrast it with the way kitty’s beliefs developed. I think there’s a pretty good argument for Nature vs nurture somewhere in there. Or maybe you could show how “Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely”…

Wow, this thread took a lot of edits. :P

It depends on how specialized he wants to get though, I think. If you just want to focus on a specific aspect of their development and then relate it to each character, it might be fine. The guidelines for the assignment probably matter, too. But I'm not exactly an English major or anything, so I'm not an expert on this stuff.

Anyway, it's so cool when people write academically about the trilogy. It's certainly better than the books I had to study in high school (well, most of them).

As cool as it would be to read essays on BTF, I don't think it's a good idea to actually do an assignment on it. I would stick to books that your prof is likely to have read 'cos you want them to appreciate the conclusions you draw from character analysis and they're not going to do that if they don't know the characters.
