I end up reading a lot of this. As far as pure satire goes, my favorites are Catch-22 and Huckleberry Finn. There are other books I like a lot that aren't as heavy on satire although still employ it gratuitously - The Corrections (by Jonathan Franzen), Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (Susannah Clarke), Pride & Prejudice - and to a large extent Barty, of course. Any good satirical novels you've read that you'd like to recommend? I'm planning on reading that book by Voltaire, but the title escapes me right now. Candide? Yeah, Candide.

Daniel Handler.
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

Princess Bride

I totally forgot about Princess Bride! I love that book, the way he tells the story is just too funny.

He's really snobby. I read one that analytical essay book he wrote and he was fully bashing kipling and dickens. He had good points but still :'(

The Screwtape Letters are good and this isn't really a book but "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift

Watchmen.

I want to read that at one point, but the only graphic novel I've read so far and liked was Persepolis... :-/

Back on topic: Can anyone recommend any satire? (well, other than the stuff already mentioned)
