Remembrance Day

Lest we forget.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Long may we remember the horror and futility of war.

A still more glorious dawn awaits, not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise, a morning filled with 400 billion suns - the rising of the Milky Way
One of my friends boycotted his school's Remembrance Day ceremony because he feels it's too nationalistic and nationalism is what cause the major wars of the past century. I agree, but only to a certain extent.

That.

wrote:The Poppy Appeal is once again subverting Armistice Day. A day that should be about peace and remembrance is turned into a month-long drum roll of support for current wars. This year's campaign has been launched with showbiz hype. The true horror and futility of war is forgotten and ignored.

The public are being urged to wear a poppy in support of "our Heroes". There is nothing heroic about being blown up in a vehicle. There is nothing heroic about being shot in an ambush and there is nothing heroic about fighting in an unnecessary conflict.

Remembrance should be marked with the sentiment "Never Again".

*sigh*

This really annoys me when people make this about politics. Soldiers (usually) make a choice to fight and risk dying for something they believe in. Remembrance day is to honor them. It should have nothing to do about advancing one cause or another. It's about what they went through, not a debate on whether the overlying reasons for war are wrong or right. Save those arguments for another day, please.

What on earth does that mean???
That is one of the most unintentionally funny article I have ever read.

Wow, people. Just... wow. Ever consider that they put it that way because it looks close to an e? Not everything is a conspiracy.

And maybe I'm just tired, but I don't understand what the article writer is trying to say.

Yeah, it was just a moon! I'm sure it wasn't meant to symbolize anything.

In short, the writer is trying to say that Google put the crescent there to fan anti-Islam sentiments.

I doubt if the writer is sane. No wait, I don't doubt that. That is the only think that makes sense.

I love Google doodles, BTW.

Oh, thanks. It just seemed like he was swinging between opinions.

They are. There's like a Google doodle for every day, they just only show some in certain countries. :(
