He's not an outcast, just young and power hungry amongst other power hungry people. And yes, there's a villian but how else would the story go? Plus you seem to forget the whole Resistance thing, which is totally different from the first book. True, at the end it's a happy (sort of) ending, but he's upset about what he did to Kitty.

They had different themes:


Basically, Aos was a story of an underestimated kid determind to win and a dijinni finding a magician not too bad.

GE was a guy under pressure who did what he found 'he had to do' for the government; a dijinni finding his old master changing and going down darks paths (dun dun dun); and a girl who wants to bring down the government

GE could have been better.

I wasn't advertising GE, I was just saying the general plot.

Golem's Eye doesn't have the same plot as Amulet of Samarkand. Remember, in AoS Nathaniel was an honourable if poncy kid. In GE he was all callous and imperious. Kitty didn't feature much at all in AoS, while in GE she was one of the main characters. Bartimaeus' past was never really discussed in AoS, but in GE his background featured regularly. In AoS the main bad guy was about killing all the other major magicians and taking over. In GE he was about causing confusion, taking control in the panic and divisions amongst the ministers, and achieveing the gratitude of all the others for saving them. I could go on, but I can't be stuffed.

Besides, Golems Eye had Harlequin's pickled extremites candle. What else could you want?

As a whole, It was moody.

Yum..moody. The confrontation between Kitty and her parents was a powerful moment for me. I nearly cried o.o

Kitty's parents annoyed me. That scene made me happy.

Lol. They were annoying and so typically so that I was reminded of my own folks.
