Dear Mr.Stroud
1. In ptomely's gate In the text There are five basic djinni And bartimaeus listed them, Can you list some of the rest and in order?
Thank you for spending your time answering some of my questions.
Hi there,
The 5 basic levels of spirit are: marids, afrits, djinn, foliots and imps, but that's just a massive simplification of an impossibly complex scheme. Each 'level' has dozens of sub-types of varying powers and personalities, and their ranks bleed into each other, so it becomes almost impossible to say whether a mouler is more or less potent than a squib (neither's much cop), or a horla outranks a senior djinni like Faquarl (I'd put my money on Faquarl, though the horlas are pretty deadly; he's probably brighter).
Above the marid level are many much more powerful types of demon, who are rarely seen. Nouda and Ramuthra both fall into that category. When Bart encounters something he quickly eyes it up and works out whether it is (a) tougher than him, in which case he runs away, or (b ) weaker, in which case he beats it up or otherwise gives it a hard time. If it's © - about the same, he has to be careful.
A few other varied subtypes are: demiafrits, zeld, noxies and termagents. But there are too many to list systematically.
All the best,
J
...Demi-afrits, you say?
Gladstone, it appears we are going to have to permanently hide this thread from that Zerix fellow in the RP section. Else I'll have to fall back on my initial assumption of Zerix brainwashing Mr. Stroud into backing up the existence of demi-afrits.
And if you do not understand what I am saying, good. You do not need to pursue the matter further.
But on the subject of the question, thanks a lot. This will help with the RP section and give us a better range of existing spirits. I'll have to ask you about the power of noxies and termagentlemen and whatnot, because I don't recall them being mentioned in the book.
