Question for Sent and Gladstone

Hey guys, I know this probably should've gone in "off topic" but I didn't want to risk too much annoying spam, so...

I've been working on this website for mental disorders for my neurologist for a long time now, and i have no friggn clue what I'm doing. I had to use Freewebs! (I know, I know, spare me...)

Anyway, I need some info on graphics and forums, any advice/tips?
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

No, off topic was the correct place.

The bartiforums discussion is for discussing the forum.

As for your question, I have no idea how to run a website. I will leave that up for the computer geeks. :P

If by "forums", you meant forumboards, you might want to try the Invisionfree ones. ...I don't really like Proboards.

As for the graphics, perhaps you could request them from a request shop. Or if you have any graphic making programs, like Photoshop or Paintshop pro... You could try that. Er. Yeah.

I would definately recommend Invisionfree, (Click on register) there are seperate Invisionfree resource boards for requesting graphics for your forum, I like www.invisionfreeskins.com.

You'll see me around on http://support.invisionfree.com which is the support forum for IF if you go for it. :)

I have had a little experience with freewebs and found them very nice

Alternatively, depending on how serious you are about this and whether you have cash to spend, get some cheap webspace from 1and1, which will allow you to host your own forum and other stuff.
It's simpler and easier to rely on the free stuff, at least to begin with, though.

What exactly do you want to know about graphics?

you could always try .tk stuff if you want someting easy to remember.
I love that, after years of not using this forum, my average posts per day is 0.7
Also, if you're using Freewebs, you can toy around with the templates to make the background look less plain.

(-looks at title of topic more closely- -le-snort- xD)

I personally wouldn't recommend re-direct domains such as .tk

A lot, I know absolutely nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. :D

What was wrong with the title? What'd I do?

Anyway, thanks guys, I need to get this thing up and running soon! Anyway, how do you link one page of the site to another? My book FREALLY screwed me up on that. *Throws book against wall*

To make HTML links:

Code: Select all

<a href=http://theurlhere.com/>Link text here</a>
So

Code: Select all

<a href=http://bartiforums.com/>Bartiforums</a>
comes out like this:
Bartiforums

No, seriously, I can't help you if you just say "Graphics". I could tell you anything from how they're stored in memory to how to host them online to what programs to make them with without actually telling you want you want.

Actually Sent, that's good. Tell me what programs make them and if they work well.

Well, the two best free image editors are Paint.NET and The GIMP. Paint.NET is easier to use, but The GIMP is more powerful. Google search them for download links.

The Gimp's awesome. I use it, Photoshop, Inkscape, and some other thingies like that. I also do digital animation.

Experiment. Open up GIMP or Paint.NET, google a basic tutorial for your program to get the hang of the basics, and then just play around with it.

Paint.net is a little frustrating.

At least it's a relatively simple interface that still has some power. GIMP is quite difficult to get the hang of as your first image editor.
