Night Police

General Chat
Gladstone was the first one they killed
A great deal of fear was instilled
Villagers wake
To a decision to make
Which noose is first to be filled?

"It's Aggron!" the villagers shouted
"No it isn't, you fools!" he pouted
They lynched him up high
And watched as he died
He was the seer, so quite wrongly outed.

The villagers woke up next day
For no further deaths they did pray
The wolves had killed Nero
He did not die a hero
Though it seems some heroics went astray

For Didier was also found dead
The vigilante shot him in the head
Two more villagers out
You'd do well to not clout
Any more innocents in this thread.

After two more innocents slain
Villagers' chances begin to wane
Senty is hanged
But he is not fanged
Another innocent killed in vain

As the sun rises next day
The wolves were not kept at bay
They murdered the Fuzz
Vigilante she was
This time, find a wolf to slay.

Mwamba is the next one to die
She's actually a wolf, oh my
You got something right
And on the next night
Just one wolf'll be giving you the eye

Votes
Mwamba - 5 (no, really)

Wolf and protector shall now do their thing as the next night falls.

Apparently in a Feat of Extreme Flexibility, you lynched yourself.

Edit; Can I host next game? Has it been called already?

Yeah I voted. Been voting for Mwamba from round 1, iirc.
I am in lab from 9am to 10pm almost daily. And I have to type two thesis in the next five days. No time and no interesting results yet. FML.

That sucks! What's your thesis?
Er just the topics right? Explaining might take a while.
First project is methylation analysis of pancreatitis associated genes. I am comparing the epigenetic signature of patient and controls (n=100) for five different genes by using Sequenom.
Second project is sequencing of 4 exons of SMN1 gene of patients (n=100) suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. I designed the primers and standardized the conditions for each. Then I am analyzing the sequences of all patients for mutations. The exons I have chosen are not the major exons responsible for the disorder. They have hardly been studied in the Indian population.
The first project has hardly been done anywhere (quite unique) while the second one has hardly been worked on in India. So it is pretty cool. :)

Looking at what I typed above, I don't think you are going to understand much. Did you do biology in high school?

Genes for pancreatitis? Seriously? Do you take into consideration consumption of alcohol etc? I mean, I haven't heard about it, but I'd love to read. Ive had enough biology to deal, I imagine.

^I work on those cases.
And if you are interested in reading, I can probably send you a copy of my thesis when I am done. But yeah, I am working on epigenetic aspects of it, not genetic.

So you're checking if people with a certain mutation are predisposed to getting the disease? Are the mutations common? How do you check if you've got the mutation? Please send me your paper as well
For the pancreatitis project? No. Mutations in genes responsible for pancreatitis have already been studied in some detail. My project is on the epigenetic differences, not genetic differences. The DNA sequence can remain the same. But some bases in the DNA have a methyl group on top of them (usually the CG-rich promoter regions of genes). And the number and location of these groups and the degree of methylation can also sometimes alter the phenotype. I am studying those and not the actual DNA sequence.
^ Hope I made sense there. And yeah, I will send you the thesis when I complete it. :)
And, coming to your question about how to check if one has got a genetic mutation, you usually amplify the region by PCR and then sequence it.

I think I get it? I'll promise to read your thesis and pretend to understand it while asking stupid questions about sample sizes and tongue swabs.

Edit: Listed to Clouds by Zach Sobiech . I He wrote it when the doctors told him he had two weeks left to live. He passed away this week and his song is number one on Itunes right now.

I understood everything you just said. I am so proud of myself.
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

No tongue swabs. Blood. :)

@Artemis: You did/doing biology? If not, then very impressive! I bet I wouldn't have understood anything if I hadn't done bio.

Ugh, I was offered to map my entire genetic material, actually. Um, no, thank you. No thanks. Cost a LOT of money, too.

edit: although I guess I wouldn't mind checking for the cystic fibrosis gene mutation, as it's so common in Scandinavia / Western world in general, and that would be a bitch if I got unlucky and well.. ended up passing on two of them.. with a partner of course.
CF; not a fan. Though they do live a while.

Google tells me it has a carrier frequency of 1 in 24 to 1 in 30 there. It is above the average carrier frequency values you see in most genetic disorders. >>
If you could somehow send me your blood sample, I will do the test free for you. Not joking but I guess the cost of sending the sample here would negate the free cost of the test. >>

I do a bit of bio. I also have a tendency to read books on human genetics for fun.
