It's called Lockwood and Co. The premise doesn't sound particularly bad or good so far, but I'm sure Stroud will do something cool with it.

It sounds like it could be really good. I can't wait to see what it will be like
Urban crime fantasy? Sweet.

Plus I can even get my brother to read this one.

Sounds like an interesting idea!
But I still wish it was another Bart...
on the other hand another Bartimaeus book would just be trying to oversell the series. Ah well, this new book should be interesting.
A dozen more questions occurred to me*.

*Not to mention 22 possible solutions to each one, 16 resulting hypotheses and counter-theorems, 8 abstract speculations, a quadrilateral equation, 2 axioms, and a limerick. That's raw intelligence for you.

I disagree, Stroud would only write and have published something he was inspired to write and thinks is good, and if that is true it couldn't be bad

Cool. I was kinda disappointed with Heroes of the Valley, but after reading the premise I've got a good feeling about this one.

More Barti would be best though, I feel like that universe could allow for an almost countless amount of books.

I'll be looking forward to Lockwood & Co., in any case.

I feel the same with you on Heroes. There was a lot of promise there, but I felt it just didn't fully reach its potential.

I'm glad Stroud is really exploring different genres - urban crime fantasy? That sounds pretty epic.

I have to agree with you. But another Bartimaeus would be nice.

If you really miss Barti like I do, there is a really good fanfic.

It's called Panache, by conception.creation. It wrenched my heart open.

News from Stroud on Twitter:

"NEWS. Wild rejoicing here as I've finally delivered the manuscript of LOCKWOOD & CO Book 1 to my publishers in the US and UK! I've had a lot of fun writing it over the last few months. It's been quite intense too. Am now staggering, blinking, into the light... Also: There's more NEWS coming about Lockwood & Co very soon... Watch this space!"

Lockwood and Co. sounds like the title of a series, not a book.. did he say if this is another trilogy?

The big giveaway about it being a series is how he said "LOCKWOOD & CO Book 1", but nice work deducing that from the title... There's no information I'm aware of on how many are planned, though.

It being a series means there will probably be even fewer Bart books in the future D:

Barti needs to reire, He's put up with enough power hungry magicians.

Jon needs to come up with a good title to get this series started. Like 50 shades of the dead, or the Haunting Games or the Casual exorcism.

Bartimaeus Trilogy didn't do well because he forgot an important part of the "Main Character and the Interesting Object" formula.

Never compare the 50 shades with books. It doesn't deserve even that.

I think BT didn't do that well (in terms of readers) because it just isn't that well known for some reason. I really can't think of another reason. The books are really splendid!

It's the title and the cartoony cover and the fact that's it's in the ages 9-12 section of chapters. 9 year olds are too young to appreciate the moral dilemmas that arise!
Seriously it is in the 9-12 years section? =o
Over here, it is usually in the broad section called the "Fantasy" or "Children". The latter basically includes everyone below 18.

It's usually in kids' books rather than young adult, here, which means about the same sort of age range as Luciene was saying.
