Mr. Stroud i love Bartimeus trilogy, and wanted to make a couple guestions:

1. Has Bart been in service of every pharao in Egypt?

2. Why did Bart and Faquarl detest each other so much (by the way, the part where Faquarl first appears is one of my fauvorite scenes in the series)?

Thanks for your questions. I don't think Bart has been in service of EVERY pharaoh - there were a great many of them over several thousand years - but he's certainly been summoned by a fair number. Of course he likes to mention Akhenaten and Ramsees and some of the other famous ones, but I bet there were quite a few rubbish pharaohs who got him to dig their sewerage systems or something, and Bart won't mention those quite so readily!

In some ways Faquarl and Bart are quite similar, and this is why they gradually come to detest each other over many hundreds of years. They just get on each other's nerves. They're both resilient and clever and try hard to get their jobs done fast - and all too often the other one is standing in their way. It's almost like a friendship gone wrong, I think. Like you, that first Faquarl scene is one of my very favourite bits!!
