ok, i haven't seen this question asked anywhere so i'll ask it here.

did anyone else notice that at the start of the golems eye when we first met jane farrar she's decribed as having light brown hair and green eyes but the next time she's described when she tries to seduce Nat she's described as having black hair.

i thought it was just part of the glamour or something but its also mentioned as being that colour in ptolemy's gate.

anyone know if she dyed it or if its a mistake in the book or something.

it seems an obvious thing to pick up on so it might be just in the british version.

I think one could assume it has been dyed. Or it could have been a genuine mistake and the author might ask us to think that she dyed it. Jane Farrar was quite fashionable so it makes more sense than say, Kitty.

thanks for answering. i rather liked the idea that jane farrar dyed her hair. it makes a nice, realistic change from everyone in books having natural hair colours. although it is slightly weird that everyone seems to have black hair ;p.

I never noticed that. Everyone having black hair, I mean. Yeah, it is weird.

yeah, i didn't notice it that much going through the books the first few times. i only really notice the three main characters had it but i've just gone and read them again and theres loads more, most of the main-ish cast.

lets see how many i can pick out:

barti (but he's dark anyway)
Nat
Kitty
Jane Farrar
Jakob hyrnek
The mercenary
Duvall?
anne from the resistance..
...and one of the other boy's maybe more.

I seem to recall this being mentioned somewhere before, though I can't remember where. I think we can safely assume she dyes it.

Even though I doubt this applies to Farrar, but some hair colours look black, but are actually brown in the sunlight. Though it was probably just a small mistake. Or dyed.

Their hair is dark because they live in a dark world :(

i'd defend my british-ness and moan at stereotyping and americans here but, you know, its true *cries*

and the whole books are somewhat stereotypical of 70's/80's britian, probably when jonathan stroud was growing up. the slang people use and the whole way the commoner part of london works just scream's it at me. i actually looked checked when the book was mean't to be set because of this (honorius said gladstone died 110 years ago in GE and check this -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Ewart_Gladstone. Oh, i knew ptolemy was real before i read the books but with a name like 'Gladstone' and all the other magicians being made up i assumed he was too. But really it was just the name. gladstone sounds made up like mandrake. i thought it sounded too much like the name of a stereotypical strong leader to be anything but. ;p

You are British and didn't know Gladstone existed? Weird. But I suppose that can happen.

hey, i only got to year 9 history before i quit it for geography. even so i doubt i would've learn't about him.

gladstone wasn't a very influencial or great prime minister the oldest PM i remember is Churchill and thats as far as most people go. unlike america we don't learn all about the past prime ministers, probably because there's too many and change too often.

i know most of the newer one's. margeret thacher (the milk lady. she was very unpopular), tony blair, gordon brown, david cameron/nick clegg. i probably know more but i can't think of any right now.

hmm...gladstone was a lib dem. interesting, in the book he was very very conservative. (and he was the PM four different times. thats weird, that his popularity would go up and down like that.)

I think it might just have been a little mistake... or maybe she dyed it...
