Do you think if one man had summoned an army of imps, could defeat a man who had summoned five or six djinni or one marid?

I honestly think imps are way too weak for them to make a difference anywhere.

The imps wouldn't stand a chance. And the magician would probably get really weak from all those summonings, because they have to control an entire army.

What I'm wondering is how Mr. Underwood had summoned all those imps if it takes a good deal of power...he had what, hundreds, the book said? They were in his study, remember? Nathaniel's first encounter with demons. I can imagine some were illusions, but still...

He might've gotten some help with someone from work or something.

I don't think a lot of people would willingly help him. He doesn't seem to be the kind of person with a lot of friends. He's too unpleasant.

In the same way that Barti's spells are too weak to do any damage to Honorius, djinni would easily shrug off the weak spells imps are capable of.

Underwood probably summoned those imps over the space of a couple of days. They require barely any strength to summon, so even he should have been able to manage it easily.

Why would he do that, though? Didn't he have the employ of a djinni in the first place, I believe? I recall something of the sort when Nathaniel was spying on him with the scrying glass. Did he think all of them would be more frightening then some transformed thousand-tentacled demon of pure suffering? :)

I imagine that the imps in the study were very MINOR imps...they didn't cause any real damage, and wouldn't have taken much trouble to summon...let's just say the study was probably small.

I thought that they were all just minor ips that coulndn't have caused damage.

Nat was really young. Maybe he couldn't go as fast as an adult, 'cause his legs were shorter?

Maybe he was taking one step forward and two steps back?

EDIT: If I was Underwood, instead of the imps, I'd tape Nathaniel to the wall and force him to watch a thousand tentacled demon devour a hundred fat cows. :)

He was probably screaming a lot as well.

And possibly had ADD, and keep looking at the multitudes of golden butterflies all around the room.

If he had ADD he would have probably eaten them...
