But so would Bartimaeus if he hadn't summoned him first. It's not exactly as if Faqual just shows up at Nathaniel's house and beats him just for larfs. He can blame poor F's masters for that.

Nat just saw Bartimaeus first in the books and Bartimaeus just kinda stuck with him. That's all.
