Has anyone noticed that on JS's journal page he says he's "toying with several ideas, one of which involves a familiar character" ? Could we get another Bartimaeus book after all? What do you think he is contemplating?
Sorry, but it's for another book, called Heroes of the Valley, about to be released by the end of this year or early 2009.
But he's finished heros of the valley. This is something different! Plus, Heroes won't be familiar to us. Here's the exact quote:
20th June 2008
Looks as if therell be a Japanese edition of Heroes of the Valley: weve had an offer in from Rironsha, who publish Bart, which is good.
Some lovely US bound proofs have come in for Heroes. Its always a great moment, seeing something in book form for the first time its almost more satisfying than getting the final, published, version. It proves that its become something separate from that mess of paper youve been fiddling with for the last year or so, and if you got suddenly squashed by a bus, the book would still exist, and outlive you.
Doing a bit of new writing; toying with several ideas, one of which involves a familiar character. Well see.
Trivial footnote: Watched Cloverfield last night, and much enjoyed it. Maybe the cast was that little bit too pretty, but when youve got a story about a giant monster destroying New York, I suppose you cant grumble too much about realism. Not entirely sure about the ending either
but its hard to know what alternative would have been more satisfying.
Surely he MUST be talking about Bartimaeus!
Or any of his other novels...
Besides, the only reason he should make another Bartimaeus novel is
A) to make a Bartimaeus Bible
B) to talk about Bartimaeus's past.
Those two are the only novels so far we should accept.
And the questions that Stroud has answered is
All here. He's inferred that he might make another Bartimaeus novel, but not with the same plot line.
As Sentynel pointed out; could be a character from his earlier books.
hi there
When did Sent point that out?
Yes, I know it might be from one of his other books. Actually, I never read any of his other books! But I don't know... I still have this feeling its Bartimaeus. Maybe from the way Stroud wrote it. His tone seems... teasing. He knows we'd love to see Barty back again.
He should become a part time movie critic while we are waiting. I adore his use of the word pretty.
Edit: From June 17th

Its the first time Ive seen a major trial in operation, and it was great to watch the play of personalities the defendants, witnesses, the prosecution and defence barristers, the judge presiding over all. Its like a piece of theatre, with the judges bright red robes, the black cloaks of the barristers; the wigs and formality. But there was also a strong sense of the humanity of it all, the determination to see justice played out as fairly as possible.
It's like he's reading my soul!
Oooh! A new Barti book? Hmm I hope. A Barti Bible would be oh so nice.
Oh. Hello all.
Hello. Welcome back Vinr!
Thanksez! I think I need a sig.
I am too lazy to put up an avatar. I agree with stuffing, the sentence seemed as if he wants to bring Bart back, but again, I agree with the others. Chances are less it was Bart he was writing about.

<@Ximenez> Sentynel: But i have a life? No. Qed.
heroes is different.. but i wish he would make another barty book. He should, about him and another magician. in the future.. or yes. one about his past. But we have gone through quite a bit of his past. eh?
I retracted my wing briefly, held the boy so he had a quick view of the square.
"Take a look," I said. "Which house do you think has the thinnest walls?"
For a moment, he was uncomprehending. Then his eyes widened. "You're
not---"
"That one? With the pink shutters? Yes, maybe you're right. Well, let's see..."
