I simply read the final book and wanted to see if Bart was inspired by some historical character. So I searched Bartimaeus on wikipedia. And I saw a page about Jonathan Stroud. There was a reference to Bart wiki and Bartiforums. And I wondered what can be discused about these books, so I went here. I like it here and I have reached 30 posts before a short time.

Google is my friend. I did a quick search to see what the fandom had to offer and encountered bf.

The name Baritmaeus shows up in the Bible I think, and the whole djinni thing is Aladdin-esque, no?

I think I actually lurked around for a year reading questions and answers from Stroud before I actually joined

I followed a link on the official Bartimaeus Trilogy website to this place.

Well, I was already into fandoms, (Thank you Harry Potter, then mugglenet.com/other websites, and fanfiction.net/Livejournal)--that kept me tied to Harry Potter way past my normal rate of obsessive interest) so it was only natural for me after I discovered the awesomeness of Bartimaeus to seek out what I could.

Though oddly enough, even though Harry Potter has the way bigger/more diverse fandom, I have long since quit checking up on all things JK Rowling and yet I continue to visit here.

Hmm, though if I end up feeling idle enough, I might venture out to see how the crazy youth are treating Game of Thrones.

Frankly, the HP fandom is a bit too big to be always up-to-date. I only check out fanfiction.net out nowadays.

Hand of glory- a hand cut from a murderer hanged at the gallows, dipped in wax. They bring good luck to thieves and make handy candleholders.

Funny thing regarding the Hand of Glory as it showed up in the Amulet of Samarkand! From the Answered Questions Forum:
wrote:Well, that's a good question and I'm not going to give you a proper answer! The traditional 'hand of glory' allegedly used by burglars was the hand of a criminal cut down from a gallows or gibbet, which then had a candle stuffed between the fingers. It was supposed to make everyone in a house fall asleep, so the burglar could carry out his work safely.

As for the object the agent holds in the cemetary... well, it's the same sort of thing, but I don't think it's a hand this time! Certainly Nat doesn't like the look of it at all. I am very careful NOT to specify what part of the body it is. I kind of leave it to your imagination - it's better that way!
THAT'S NO HAND HE WAS HOLDING, FRIENDS.

That's what I thought - in forums it always said otherwise - I don't think Nat would act SO revolted if that would be just a hand. Gross...

HOLY HELL; IT COULD HAVE BEEN A HEAD OR A PECTORAL OR AN ARMPIT. Nothing worse, I hope, seeing as it's a teens book.

The armpit of glory. *snickers*

See my mind is always in the gutter, so of course weiners came to mind. I didn't even need to read stroud say that though, I just immediately assumed that's what it was when I was young and in middle school because it was funnier that way. (I was a crude child and still am)

When I read it, I hoped it wouldn't be IT, so I searched the web. I found these forums! And I also found that our admin Sentynel wrote it was the hand. Looks like finally someone agrees with me :D although I don't know if that's good in this case
