Honorius and Vincent; A Bit of Crossover...

Golem's Eye
I've been re-reading the trilogy in preparation for the new book (thanks for posting the count-down, btw!). I'm reading the series much more...CLOSELY this time, reading the parts that I sped through before when I was younger and a more careless reader. And there's this part with Honorius that really...struck this time.

I don't know how many of you are Doctor Who fans, but there's an episode where they go back in time to visit Vincent van Gogh, who is maniacally depressed and crazy, and approaching the end of his life. There are several scenes throughout the episode that are pretty emotional and very much a downer, but then there's this jewel:

And as I was reading this part of Golem's Eye again, the parallels really hit:

'Then it (Honorius) stiffened and cocked its head. Something had caught its attention.

Kitty backed steadily away along the corridor.

"The stars...I'd quite forgotten." The figure in the arch gave a sudden hop and stood on a ledge, looking up toward the sky. "So many of them...so bright and pearly blue."

Even from the far end of the cloister, several yards away and retreating fast, Kitty could hear it sniffing the air and muttering to itself, and letting out little cries of fascination and delight. It appeared to have entirely forgotten her existence.

"No stone. No worms. What a change that would make! No mold, no deathly dustly silence. No none of it. So many stars...and so much space..." '

Even better, trying reading that bit while just listening to the audio from the Doctor Who clip. The music is really striking.

Just thought that was kind of cool :)

Welcome back! And you joined in 2005!
I don't watch (get) DW, but many here do.

"I like quoting Einstein. Know why? Because nobody dares contradict you." - Studs Terkel.

Being a fan of both series, thats awesome.

Yeah, took a long break from it all, but the excitement of Ring of Solomon brought me back. Good times here. Good times.
