Hero-Complex

General Discussion
Does Nathaniel have hero complex? I mean, he sort of had if self-sacrificing moment in the end of PG and during a part of AoS, but not so much in GE, 'cause he was a overambitious kid in that one... So what do you think?

No I don't think he had it. I feel he just wanted to right his wrongs. Because he felt magicians were responsible for the mess (in reference to the third book) and he felt guilty about nearly bringing about/bringing about Martha's death (first book).
"If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination ... no more men!" - Einstein

<@Ximenez> Sentynel: But i have a life? No. Qed.
In my opinion, he never has one. I think it was guilt that made him act that way, not the need to be a hero or to save the day.
"When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story".
Nathaniel is a mixed up kid.

In the end though, I think he didi what he did partially cause he felt guilty for broken promises, deaths, etc. and partly because this was his big chance to be famous, and he wanted to save the government from evil demons or die trying. so maybe a bit of a hero complex.

Nathaniel is the perfect example of a traditional Shakespearean tragic hero.

Meaning he is good, becomes corrupted, learns the error of his ways, and accepts death.

(i.e. Macbeth, Othello. If you've read them, which I have, and hated, but still...)

Yeah, I guess XD
I didn't like Macbeth much either... but I think Nathaniel is more like Hamlet in AoS - you know, with the 'i will have my revenge no matter the cost HAHAHAHA' attitude. The thing with Macbeth was that he started out good, went bad, then became worse, while Nathaniel started out good, went bad, then ended up saving the world.
And anyways, Nathaniel was just a bit of a ponce in the 2nd book, and compared to some other characters (*cough, cough* Ciel from Kuro), he wasn't really that bad. His base intentions were always good, but he had to fight fire with fire, and therefore lost his morality.

His Attitude I think overshot from the end of GE to the beginning of PG, you know, with poncy frills, and slaves etc.
Ha! Impudent mortals! I shall soon conquer your world and all that you hold dear!
