Why draw a line at all? Why not just deal with it case-by-case?

Edit: Also, the forum guidelines draw the line for 'avatar and signature images', but say nothing about images in posts...

That rule was always supposed to cover everywhere; I've clarified it.

Why draw a line? Would you prefer me to arbitrarily remove images I find particularly annoying or that happen to load especially slowly because my internet's playing up at that particular point instead?
