Welcome. Your English is actually very good. Better than most natural English speakers. I always thought German and English were very similar.

Lots of English-second-language people here, no problem. Judging from your username, do you play Skyrim? :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:

Thank you all

@Nero: Thanks. But thats surprising to hear. You know, i have english-lessons in my school and my marks in this subject arent THAT good... Similiar? Hm... Thats hard to tell. But i guess, yeah, there are some similarities.

@rubberchickenben: Yes, i do. But i dont play it very often recently.
There's a difference between conversational English and academic English. Regardless, we're very welcoming here.

The shorter and the more mundane words, such as pronouns and auxiliary words in English are from German. And its grammatical and syntactical rules too. The longer and more complex words are from Latin.
I just read an essay on this yesterday. >>

@rubberchickenben: Hm, yeah, I forgot about that. I guess that applies to all languages...

@nathanielandbartimaeus: When you think about it, its true. For examle "Ich habe ein Glas" means "I have a glass" in english. Or "Hier" means "Here". It's even nearly the same pronunciation.

@Sentynel: Thank you
Hello! :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:

Yeah, don't worry, if they're anything like the language classes over here, they are kind of useless. Memorizing verbs and tenses doesn't really translate well into actually being proficient. Getting in real life practice works much better, imo.

Well you're doing better than people in Canada who are at the top of their French class would do talking to French people. But I suspect that our education system is inferior to Germany's.

I think it is more difficult to score in an English test than a French one. And the French level tests would be more basic than the English ones even of both were secondary languages. And somehow, everyone gets to know to speak a little English usually.
(I don't know if this true universally, but it is true in many countries.)
