I have a world cultures report to do. I was wondering if anyone could describe to me a holiday/festival celebrated in a country other than the United states. I need to know

*Name of holiday and reason for celebration
*background of the festival
*what is done to celebrate

Cooperation appreciated

Why not the Day Of The Dead? It's easy and everyone knows about it.

*They celebrate it to celebrate the passing of the dead and their loved ones
*They make flavorful food, use candles, insents, and skeletons to attract their dead loved ones back to earth
*They decorate the loved ones graves with the food, insents, flowers, and skeletons so that their souls will come back down to visit them.

Children are taught early so they'll be prepared for it when they get older. Mexican holiday. Lasts from October 31st to November 2nd.

Hope it helps.

Bonfire Night, UK

*Bonfire Night because a plot to blow up the houses of Parliament was discovered and stopped and is now celebrated
*It was on 5th November 1605 when Guy Fawkes tried to blow the houses of Parliament up with King James I in side. The plot was stopped and celebrated across the UK, there is a rhyme for it somewhere...
*Large Firework displays and bonfires are built, often with a dummy of Guy Fawkes on the top.

Thanks, those are both good, but I am thinking that the day of the dead will already be picked by the time I get to choose what to do. Our teacher is letting the other classes pick their project first. But thankyou very much.

Hopefully no one will pick Nat's Bonfire Night.

Is there Remembrance Day down in the US? Canadians certainly celebrate it.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

There's a rememberance day for Martin Luther King Jr. and for Washington and Lincoln and...I think that's it.

I think there are other verses but not many people use them and especially not the last verse as that is very rude towards Catholics.

Any body watch "V for Vendetta"? Great movie! My brother knows that saying by heart, all I know is remember remember the fifth of November.

I meant remembrance as in World War Remembrance. Apparently it's called Veteran's Day down there. It's a big deal for Canadians.

Oh, yes we have that. It's not very big, though. Just get a day off...

Everyone buys poppies from veterans, and there are parades, and bands, and and veterans talking about what it was like.

We only have a parade. They might hand out food after, but I don't know.

We get crappy candy left over from Halloween and some other unhealthy food I never eat, after Rememberance day parade.

I went poppyselling in Square One as well...I think I made like 40$.
We get the day off and that's it.

Shoot, we have a bigger celebration for St. Patrick's Day!

I'm only scared of Cthulhu. He'll come for me eventually. And America does suck. Isn't there a song called America the Ugly? Or was it beautiful?
