In Fanfiction I mean. Besides Bowles. (Loved monsters)
Just wondering if there were more like minded people her... I'm one, go by the name Angst Equinox.

I write a little. Nothing I'd consider worth posting anywhere yet, though.

I am(sort of XD). I don't write anything deep and I miss out details sometimes. Besides that, I think I'm okay with spelling and vocabulary. Nothing to do with Barty stuff yet though...Hey wait a minute, I DID start a sort of blog on that, hmm...XD

I'm one, as previously mentioned. And Contrarian is one, but she's not a member. But she's probably got more stories than anyone else... Terms of Enderment, the Tutorial, Gratitude, Monsters, Seeking Names, For the Weary, etc, etc.

But I've still got the longest story! (And by 70,000 words, too!) :D

My novel is at 80k words and growing, but it's an original work, not fanfiction.

Novel? Or Chapter? 80KB is pretty short for a novel.

I used to write fanfiction. I had 4 or 5 fics up and then decided to stop. I'm just a reader of fanfiction now.

I write a lot of original fiction, and I post some of them on fictionpress.com, kind of a sister site of fanfiction.net. I have a total of 4 stories up, though only 1 of them is done, because it was a one-shot thing I did in English. I enjoy creative writing a lot.

Fictionpress? The 'Original only site.' site?
I've always noticed that originals tend to have a lot more mary sues and malformed characters. Plus, they require a lot more thought then fanfiction.

I think it's the point it's harder. Anyone who wants to be a real author can't write fanfiction of someone else --- well, Paolini did, but he's one person. I go under the name Sumnor on fictionpress.

Of course original fiction is harder. That's why I don't go to FictionPress. While most of FFNet is crap, FictionPress is even worse.

I don't write original fiction for the simple reason that I don't believe I'm ready for it. Fanfiction is fun and a wonderful learning experience - I get to develop my writing in a ready-to-use world and even expand and practice with that world.

I'm kind of confused about this topic...Are we talking about original role playing games, or books that we're writing? I've just confused myself even more now!

There are a few execelent authors and absolute gems hidden in the muck.
Off my head, I'll say they are DarkMale, Lucky Ratail, Post ect... Still, it's 90% crap.

Most topics go way 'off topic' so don't worry we easily get confused, just go along with the posts at the time you read them as its difficult to bring them back to the original topic

Some forums have a rule that topics cant go off-topic, but i dont support that, i think that the topic should follow the natural flow of the conversation? :P

I'd agree with Gladstone. Particularly in the Off Topic forum. :P

:ph43r: Ninja thread hijack! :ph43r:

^ Like that.

They're talking about writing fan-fiction - ie stories set in the world of a book like the Barti trilogy - or writing original stories.

Well then, I guess you could say I'm an author...or would-be author...I'm writing my first book. I started it in Nov, or Dec. ;)

Fanfiction author. Particularly in the Bartimaeus triology

PS How are you supposed to stay in topic in a, say, 6 page threand. Seems unlikely....
Shame of the Super Son
I'm on Fanfiction.net as MistressMarionette, but I've only written one Bartimaeus Trilogy thing, a sort of drabble. And it was written before I read Ptolemy's Gate. Looking back, my Ptolemy was totally off, and people have told me so (but nicely. They weren't like, "YOU SUCK, BIZATCH! NAHHHHH!" They just mentioned that there were some rather significant differences. A couple of them said I wasn't too far off the mark, but I really was...). I'm working on another with Ptolemy and Bartimaeus again, this time using Ptolemy's Gate as a source. If you wanna check the other story out, it's called Not In a Million Years (Bowles has read it already. And left a very super-helpful review. :D )

And also, I know somebody mentioned this earlier, but Contrarion is a major kick-buttocks author. As is Bowles. They both seriously rule the Bart-fanfiction scene in my opinion...

And I agree, it's hard to find quality on both Fanfiction.net and Fictionpress. I gave up on Fictionpress a long time ago (partly because their search engine thing really sucks. I find it funny that they only include the most LEAST recent stories in their search results.) It's almost a good thing the Bartimaeus section at FF.net is so small, it's easier to weed out the good from the bad from the just plain ugly...
"Hey, we've all got problems, chum. I'm overly talkative. You look like a field of buttercups in a suit."

DRABBLE!? That fic inspired over half of my Bart fics. Bartimaeus was tottally in character...
Yep, They rule Fanfiction.net *lConspiratorial whispher* Did you read A game of chess? I swear, it felt like Eistein went temporarily brain dead. *End Whispher*

No offence intended Bowles.
