Disapparating

Golem's Eye
Barti says that he can dissapear, materialize elsewhere in the golems eye, I believe while Jakob was in Nats captivity. However, he states most prominintly in the Ring Of Solomon that he cannot. He also says so in other books.

Only when his master orders him to.
Shubit does it when Whitwell charges him to search the Lovelace collection, for example.
I don't have The Ring of Solomon in front of me, but I believe it does say at one point that Uraziel did a very complex move with the Queen of Sheba, something only something with the strength of an Afrit or above could do. (Referring to disapparating.)

Also, it is mentioned in another of the series of books that he could only do it through the summons of a master, when he is invoked from the Other place to Earth.

Edit: "He" being Bartimaeus

That's two different things. Uraziel is 'dissaparating' the Queen of Sheba, and he can do that cause he's super powerful. Bartimaeus is 'disapparating' just his essence when he's summoned.
However, in the Golem's Eye, Barti specifically says that he can disappear, appear elsewhere, take the required object and bring it back with him.

Only when his master instructs him to. "Given a precise command and a partial retraction of my current charge"

I suppose the only questionable thing is how Bartimaeus can materialize or be summoned with physical objects. Like the Amulet of Samarkand just comes with him when he's summoned by Nathaniel.
Yeah, you make a convincing argument.

If good ol' Barti is just leaning against a house, or maybe standing in the sea, how do the summons react to that?

I guess the summons would just have to include objects given in a previous order.

Or maybe it's a flaw. Jonathan Stroud is human.
HA Ha ha. Oh wait, you're being serious....

Wasn't the whole point of you starting this topic to point out a flaw in the story?
In Ring of Solomon he was secretly in Hogwarts the entire time?

...

I'm a terrible person.

Now, I don't have the book right in front of me, but is he saying this to Jakob? In that case, he may just be bluffing to seem more impressive. Just a thought.

I don't get it
I act like I wasn't the cause of you in the dungeons.

When nobody is looking, I give a mocking smile at your bedraggled figure.
