Since Bartimaeus arrives at one point, weak and about to die. He ignores what Jane says and dismisses him. The consience won. And if his consience is back, he's going to go for Kitty.

He was sort of in love with Kitty since the end of GE. During that council meeting he's thinking about her as his own. Though it's more of a guilty obession.

And he simply thinks Jane is pretty. He isn't in love with her. More like lust.

And she simply wants him if he's on top, as stated before.

I believe you grip it between your finger and your thumb and throw it like a Frisbee. Presumably there's some sort of sheath or container that protects the edges when you're carrying them.
