Bartimaeus's love for Ptolemy

Hello,

This question has been tumbling around in my skull ever since finishing the Bartimaeus Trilogy. I nearly jumped for joy when I found this forum, knowing it may actually be answered. I have seen a similar question to this one, but it was not answered...

How, exactly, does Bartimaeus feel for Ptolemy? Does he love him in a purely platonic fashion? His adoration for his little master is so strong, so beautiful, it seems to me to transcend common ideas of love. Could it be a romantic love (assuming the Spirits even feel romantic love...)? Does age or gender or species even matter to a Spirit if/when it falls in love? Perhaps I read too much into it, hoping that a writer dared to take love to such a level, regardless of many taboos or walls we would normally perceive as humans. I love the innocent portrayal of something far deeper. Something like soul mates. Even if Ptolemy couldn't truly understand it at his age. I quite like the idea that we could say Bartimaeus is in love with Ptolemy, as simply as that. We already know that he has not, so far, "gotten over" him. I assume he never will. Having real confirmation of that instead of speculation would be awesome. Of course, if the truth is to the contrary, I would like to know that too.

Thank you so much for your beautiful mind and all that it has given us!
