The five figures ((that is, the djinn)) strode through the bustling streets of London, their long, black coats flapping in the wind. Attempting to appear inconspicuous, they murmured amongst themselves in low voices. Their gazes were cast about, as if trying to locate a certain individual... ((Jason Darkdust)) What they did not spy, however, was a tall man hiding in the shadows near them, his angular face framed by a beard.

Jason Darkdust casually walked along the busy streets with a large shopping bag in hand. Jason had been running errands for his work and was now returning to his work office. His bag contained average office supplies; pens, ink, paper, but also a notebook with the title "London - Updated Legal Clauses and Addendums" written on it's front.

Jason was in no hurry, and stopped to catch his breath, setting down the bag for a moment. After a few seconds, Jason picked the bag back up and made to continue walking, but suddenly stopped. His casual face was now stern and attentive, his eyes wide with focus. Jason looked liked he was listening to someone, but there was no one visibly speaking to him. Then, he slowly turned his head around. Jason, finally aware of their presence, saw the several figures moving towards him with intent. Swallowing a gulp of fear, he slowly turned his head forward and resumed his walk in (what he hoped was) a casual manner. In a hushed, urgent tone, Jason whispered to his right shoulder, "Get out of here and don't let them see you! Hide and be ready for me to summon you."

Jason had for a long time been rumored to be a 'Commoner-Lover.' "Is that why they're after me?" Jason thought. "Maybe they just want to question me because of my reputation....or maybe it's something else..." At the conclusion of that thought, Jason quickly picked up the pace of his walk.

Among the five distraught commoners, the sharpest-looking man strode along at a seemingly leisurely pace, his dark eyes shining beneath his hood.

I sighed. Here I was- good ol' Bartimaeus, tracking down a suspicious commoner while my "comrades" argued amongst themselves. Mandrake had better owe me one for this.

I quickened my pace- and it seemed as though this Jason Darkdust did so, too. Nevertheless, the space between us shrank more and more. I reached out a hand to nonchalantly tap him on the shoulder...(1)

(1) Always works, that. They turn around, expecting something harmless; You pop them in a bag, sling them over your shoulder, and off you go. Easy.

((Sorry for this being so short. And also, someone start arguing with ma Bart :D))

Jason desperately wanted to look being him and see if the mysterious group was still tailing him. However, he was too afraid to risk turning his head around again and facing the mysterious figures. Instead, he turned his head to the left and right, trying to appear as if something in those directions had caught his attention. Jason did this a few times and managed to catch a glimpse of his pursuers out of the corner of his eye. He did not like what he saw.

The several, shadowy figures were no longer wandering around or looking about. One of them, the leader perhaps, had his eyes locked onto Jason and were tracking his every move. He had no doubt spotted Jason and had increased his pace. The other pursuers, however, seemed less interested in Jason and appeared to be squabbling with each other over something.

Jason turned his head back facing forward and took a deep breath of air to try and relax his nerves. "Okay, whoever these guys are, they don't seem too organized" Jason thought to himself. "I still have some good distance between them as well." Jason maintained his 'power-walk' and bumped his way through the crowd of people. His head scouted in all directions, looking for some avenue of escape. Jason, thinking out loud, quietly muttered under his breath. "If I can just ditch these lackeys for a second, I can slip away an-"

Jason quietly gasped in surprise. Something had deftly touched him on the shoulder. It had only been a few seconds since he had glanced at his pursuers. There was no way they could have traveled to him so quickly...was there? For a moment, Jason was frozen in fear and surprise, but only for a moment. Fighting down his fear and anxiety, Jason kept walking. He then, somewhat slowly, turned his head around to face his mysterious shoulder-tapper. Still moving, but at a slower pace now, Jason affixed a nervous smile across his face. He stared into dark, shining eyes and slowly croaked, "Uhh, can...can I help you?"

I smiled victoriously. Voila! One tap of the finger from the great Bartimaeus, and we have him. Nothing new, of course. And would you just look at that grin plastered across his face- it trembles with fear! And he did not yet even know that I was Sakhr-Al-Jinni, Serpent of the Silver Plumes, who spoke with Solomon and battled against twenty utukku at a time.
“Now, dear friend, I shall give you two choices. One is to come peacefully with us, while the other is to struggle, which would result in many injuries- on your side. Personally, I prefer that you fight against us, because I am rather bored.”
With a smile and a wink, I stepped back, allowing the other djinn to close in and surround him like a pack of hungry sharks.(1) “As you see, however, the one thing that you cannot do is escape.”

(1) Wow. Teamwork. I’m shocked.

From the shadows, I rolled my eyes. Bartimaeus was always quite the idiot. I yawned while he presented his (exaggerated) credentials of his own slavery history. I polished my cleaver and walked on over to join in.

I cleared my throat to make my presence known.

I glanced over, momentarily distracted. Ah. Mwamba. I turned my dark eyes to her, giving an exasperated sigh.
"You're late to the party, Mwamba."
I winked, smiling dashingly.
"...But, if you help me with this fellow here, I'll let you off the hook."(1)

(1) Not that I needed help, of course. Do I ever?

I tutted.
"You don't ever pay attention do you, Fartimaeus? In fact, I'm here to present a message. Here is a note from my master to give to your master. Be careful now, he really is not going to like this."
I grinned at the thought of Mandrake giving Bartimaeus pain. Normally I hate the thought of magicians and their arbitrary sadism, but in this case, I don't have any complaints.
"And I recommend you read this before you kill this entity. Adios."
I transformed into a raven and reported back to my master.

Seeing that "man" suddenly change into a bird confirmed what Jason's demon had told him. The 5 people surrounding him were not people at all, they were demons. Considering that 1 of them had just transformed into a different creature, that meant it was a djinn, Jason believed. So, the 4 remaining demons were likely djinni as well. Against those odds, fighting them all was out of the question. Still, seeing the demons squabbling had boosted Jason's confidence a little and given him time to think.

"W-well, I don't want any, uhh, trouble now...but...but you must tell me, am I under arrest? And....and if so, on whose authority am I being arrested?" Jason spoke nervously at first, but his voice slowly rose with confidence. "I am a magician! You can't just sweep me from the streets like some commoner! I demand to see a warrant!"

I swore under my breath as I watched the man glace around. That IDIOT, Faqural! Now this Jason Darkdust knew! Oh, well. No pressure. Still a kill-able human. I stepped forward, glaring at him with a piercing glare, the type that made legs quiver.

"A warrant, human?" I growled menacingly. "I'm afraid that we do not posses one. However, you're hardly in the position to be giving out orders, now are you? And being a weak little magician does not change anything!"

I made a gesture- the group of djinn stepped forward in unison, closing in.

"Now- are you going to come or fight?"

Jason took a deep breathe and opened his mouth as if to yell something....

But then he looked around and, after seeing that there were no police or Night Police nearby, decided to speak in a quieter tone.

"....Okay, lead the way." Jason said politely with a tiny, fake smile on his face.

I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. What was the fool playing at? Ah, well...
"Very well, then! Come with me." I said with a fake-r smile. Stepping behind him so that I could keep an eye on him, I pushed him on. Past rows of white-topped stands reflecting the pale sun, where merchants sold various goods; Shops with peeling paint, vendors pushing carts, tall buildings of gray stone covered in ivy and moss. We weaved through the crowd of swarming humans until stopping before a building that towered above all the activity like a monarch presiding over its subjects- which it was.
"Well, then! Welcome to your new place of damnation." I announced cheerfully.

((So far, it's only been Mwamba, Thunderwolf, and I; Though more people signed up. If you're hovering there, don't be shy! Hop on in!))

In a dilapidated old pub within smelling distance of the Thames, the mercenary took a seat. He was in the corner, with a full view of the room. Once he got the server girl to bring him a coffee and leave, he nodded to Hopkins sitting in the corner opposite.

The little pigeon-chested sociopath got up and walked his way over, discretely settling himself in the chair beside the mercenary.

“Your efficiency is impeccable, Verroq”

The mercenary did not respond.

Hopkins made no eye contact. He simply folded his hands in his lap and spoke in his monotone.

“The government has sent djinn to pursue a magician by the name of Jason Darkdust. Greasy little dithers, works in the Home Secretary, never did anything worthwhile. However, he’s gotten his hands onto some rather sensitive information.”

The mercenary nodded; he remained silent.

“You see, when security catches up with him, they’ll yank the information out, then kill him. The people I represent would like to see him die and the information get lost forever. Hence why you are here.”

The mercenary parted his lips and asked one thing, “How much?”
