Bartimaeus Film?

Submit Your Question
Dear Mr. Stroud,

I am sure that this is quite a common question that you get. I was wondering if you had any plans for a film adaptation for your Bartimaeus books, or if it even had crossed your mind. I for one find your books amazing and witty, but my one concern would be the limits of film, and its ability to capture Bart's wit in picture.

According to some, heroic deaths are admirable things. I've never been convinced by this argument, mainly because, no matter how cool, stylish, composed, unflappable, manly, or defiant you are, at the end of the day you're also dead.?

Thanks for the welcome and the answers. I wish that someone would make it though. Just finished rereading the series.

Yes, a lot of book rights get bought up because film companies think they *might* do something with a property, and don't want any one else to have a shot. Especially in the wake of Harry Potter there was a rush to buy up anything directed at young adults that might become popular. First it was fantasy stuff, now they've moved on to dystopian dramas.

Don't really know what this means for the Lockwood and Co. rights, which are over at Illumination Entertainment right now.

If the trilogy was made into a movie, would it be better as a cartoon animated film, or with real people + CGI add-ins?
In my perfect world it's an old school traditionally animated epic. But I used to be an animator, so I'm a little biased.

Nobody does those anymore though. All the animated stuff is like Inside Out or Frozen.
That's just the big fancy American film companies. There's plenty of traditional animation happening, it's just not as visible as it used to be. Heck, a lot of animators are still taught that way first because it's a good way to learn.

Imagine it as an old-school Tom & Jerry (The old one) stylish movie

Okay fair enough. Unfortunately, the magical young adult genre seems to have lost favour

I suspect a suitable actor like Charles Dance would make a good voice actor for Bartimaeus, perhaps with Benedict cumberbatch for Lovelace, or Toby Stephens ( depending on how hes aged since playing gustav graves in james bond die another day). Failing Charles Dance, Jeremy Irons could be a decent option..

I really hope this series, and the old kingdom series get made into movies.
