In book I of the glorious trilogy, Nathaniel and Mrs. Underwood get into a small sub-discussion of Afrits. Somewhere, Natty says, "When wil I see a freet?" after Mrs. Underwood mentions afrits. So, is it pronounced Af-Rit or Af-Reet? Or did young Nathaniel just misunderstand?

I thought it was spelled afrit, but pronounced a-freet.

I pronuonce it with a silent "D", but without major emphasis on the "J". Like, how you pronouce the "J" in the French name, "Jaque".

I pronounce it jinni, but with the 'j' sound kinda weird.
