In book I of the glorious trilogy, Nathaniel and Mrs. Underwood get into a small sub-discussion of Afrits. Somewhere, Natty says, "When wil I see a freet?" after Mrs. Underwood mentions afrits. So, is it pronounced Af-Rit or Af-Reet? Or did young Nathaniel just misunderstand?

"Ifrit, also spelled efreet, also ifreet, afrit, afreet (Arabic: ʻAfrīt: عفريت, pl ʻAfārīt: عفاريت), are a kind of Jinn mentioned in the Qur'an."

I've always pronounced it "afreet" for that reason.

Apparently...

What about djinni? Do you pronounce it as duh-jinni, or with a silent "D"?

I pronuonce it with a silent "D", but without major emphasis on the "J". Like, how you pronouce the "J" in the French name, "Jaque".
