Hey, Jonathan, I absolutely loved your books. They were fantastic! But I was wondering about several things concerning America:

1. Why did the British still have control over the Americas?
2. Why couldn't the Americans effectively rebel until now?
3. Did the British domain help prevent things like the Civil War from ever happening in American history.

Please help me figure it out.

Good questions, and they're not really answered in the books, because the whole American question is taking place in the background, so to speak.

In Nat's alternative world, history has unfolded differently because of magic. The British have stayed in control of the colonies longer because of their magical power, but by Nat's time, the Americans have strong magicians of their own and are beginning to flex their muscles. The Civil War won't have taken place because the Brits have been in charge. But what happens next, once the colonies get their freedom, will be a different story...
