hello!
the magicians use variuos painfull punishments to punish rude spirits and put them back into their proper places...
after reading the ring of dolomon recently, i started wondering, why wouldnt they use some forms of positive reinforcemt to control their enslaved spirits?
such as spells that will act like a "drug" on a spirit, so it would become dependent of a "high" from a magician...
much like a puppy waiting for a treat for answering a command.
maybe, a happy spirit makes an obedient spirit... (?)
thank you in advance! andy.
Well,at first it seems like a good idea. But,if the demon gets a treat, wouldn't they just keep coming back unsuccessful for another treat.

they wouldn't get a treat if there were'nt succesful
i was mainly thinking of this positive reinforcment attitude becuase bart keeps stating that demons serve their master unwillingly... and their constant desire to return to the other place...
but if you "drug" them into being happy as they are, to the level of addiction and dependance, it just seems like an easier way to control them.
with this said, punisments are definatly still on the table. so a demon that fails his mission will still be punished!
It seems like a good idea, but exactly where would you find a substance like that?
how it would work exactly isnt for me to decide, is it? im not a magician or jonathan stroud...
but to theorize, such "rewards" (or subsatance) could come in many forms- for example: briefly open a passage to the other place letting the demon feel it but not actually pass, compressed demon essences offered as "food", magical words of power ect ect...
as ones imagination can runs wild...
hmm.. how about "book of enchanntments"? idk... sounds interesting... i got the idea from the relationship betwen khaba and ammet.
I remember something faint from Ring of Solomon about Bartimaeus saying that working wasn't really that bad because they got to grill imps and eat them. Something like that. So maybe something complicated isn't needed.
Or maybe just lifetime "relationships" (meaning enslavement) cause the demon to get a little pitiful of their master and you get that link like the one with Khaba and Ammet.
(When did I become a mouler?)
That would be really good. I think it would have to be like some sort of compressed essence. Well after a good job aswel, they do get rewarded by going back to the other place for a small amount of time.
If there was a treat, it would be made of essence. Of course, a better reward would just be to send them back the The Other Place.
Good idea! Should be implemented. Sadly, magicians hate demons.
