[Accepted]Can Spirits move up ranks? Like an Imp to a Foliot

Answered Questions
Dear Mr. Stroud ,

I really enjoyed the books but have a few questions.

1. Looking at the Spirits list in the Golems Eye Jesica Whitwells demon Shubit is a djinn but in Ptolemys Gate when she is forced to summon a demon into her it say she summons a bear - afrit and Shubits favoured guise is a bear. Is this a typing error or what, or can spirits move to a higher being/rank?

2. If a spirit is a Mouse on one of the planes and on another is a bird and started to fly what would happen to the Mouse on the other plane? Would it start flying or would the Spirit need to change?

3. With the seven league boots how does the wearer control not running into solid objects or do the pass through? Also what entities are trapped in them?

Ps: is Faquarl the chef and Jabor the jackel beacuase when i first red the books i thought Jabor was the chef. I was really confused! LOL
Faquarl is indeed the Chef -admin

PPs: I think your a fantastic author and should think about writing about Bart's past (like his battles and encounters with people) and put them into stories. I second that! -admin
Hi there,

Thanks for your questions. Here are some answers:
2. If the spirit decided to keep up the mouse guise on another plane, then an onlooker who watched that plane would indeed see a flying mouse. Which might look a bit silly: and most spirits, who have a keen sense of pride, tend to avoid guises which are actively foolish. If, for some reason, they had to keep the mouse thing going, they'd probably give it temporary wings. Which is only marginally better.
3. The entities in the 7-league boots are mysterious, but very high-level, since they seem to have access to the legendary 8th plane that Bart grumpily admits knowing nothing about. The magic of the boots distorts time and space in a localised way: not only can the wearer cover long distances in a Usain Bolt-style fashion, but s/he does not experience it as an impossible blur. To the wearer, everything around is crystal sharp, and they are able to avoid obstacles in the same way as you or I would, only at this higher speed.

All the best,

J
