(This question is sorta ripped off from Umbreo, credit goes to him (It did occur to me as well though!))

Dear Mr S

If a spirit has a 'true form' on the higher planes, and a variable changing form on the lower planes, if the spirit becomes a small thing on the lower planes and passes through a small opening, does the 'true form' shrink to get through as well? Does it become intangible like that girl off the X-Men? Does it cease to exist in reality? If not, then what?

Hello,
The 'true form' is a sort of misnomer because, as we see in PG, and as B occasionally reminds us in footnotes, a djinni's REAL true form is a gloopy, syrupy mess i.e. as it is in the Other Place. When a spirit is exiled to earth the shape it adopts on the higher planes is more likely to reflect its amorphous reality - in a vaguely materialistic, tenticular sort of way). It occupies more or less the same space as the first plane guise, though there'll be obvious variations for shape and posture and all the horrid tentacles etc. If the spirit is called upon to do something radical like squeezing through a tiny gap, the higher plane forms do exactly the same as the first-plane guise, usually becoming very fluid (in an Other Place-style way) and insubstantial, until they've passed through and the spirit stabilises its form(s) again.

Thanks for the question!

J
