2010 Olympic Winter Games: Vancouver

General Chat

Should the Money Spent have been Used For Something Better?

YES!: For the poor, and needy, and essential stuff
NO: Sometimes there must be such events, and the money spent on the Olympics is minute to what is typically spent to finance essentials such as healthcare.
Well, all this makes it seem more than just normal reporting. But the papers here are not complaining about the Olympics. There was something about a "gaffe" and some "blunders" on the first few days, but it just stated what it was and nothing more (they reserve all their vitriol for events taking place here). Most of the reports have been quite positive, like these:

And I suppose this is why the doping tests were insisted:

Hmm. This is nice.

But India doesn't have to host the next Olympic Games... unlike Russia and Britain.

Some cool HD photos:

Mwahaha.

Those pictures are awesome.

Was at the movie theatre until midnight watching the games. Women's Hockey won, again (not that anyone was ever concerned; the other teams are pretty terrible), and maybe the Men's team should borrow their goalie. So did Joannie Rochette in the figure skating.

Awesome pics. I can't choose one over the other.
BTW, you put a pic twice. Not that it matters.

Yeah, I see that table daily. And, if I remember rightly, in the Summer Olympics, countries with the maximum gold take the first position. Not the ones with the maximum medals. Why is it different in Winter Olympics?

THANK YOU THANK YOU VERY MUCH

....did you watch the game? (I doubt it but it's worth asking)

Indeed, the United States do the greatest athletes.

At getting second.

In all honesty this was close game. I'm impressed with the US. Canada was too busy sitting back though in the end.

No, I didn't watch it, just in a couple of channels with lots of American and Canadian folks in.

Cool. Crowd support is crucial. So Canada has now got the most gold medals for a host nation.

Downtown is in uproar. Gotta love living in the capital. Hell, Toronto and Montreal are probably the same.

Well, the medal tally, by default, is arranged by the total number of gold medals won. In Wikipedia, every Olympic medal tally I checked had by the gold winners first. It is an IOC convention. The table we see arranged according to the total medals won is not really correct.

Best part: Walking outside right after the last hockey goal and hearing the distant screaming.

Yeah, I love that part. When the whole country goes mad. Great experience.
