Have you heard about the horribleness of bottled water? Visit this link:The Story of Bottled Water
...So I decided on a delicate, fastidious guise to impress upon my captor my formidable sophistication.
It was a snappy piece of work, if I say so myself. A large, iridescent bubble, glimmering all over with a pearly sheen, rotated in mid-air. Sort fragrances of aromatic wood drifted forth, with--faintly, as if borne from a great distance--the ethereal music of harps and violins. Inside the bubble, with little round spectacles perched upon her shapely nose, sat a beautiful maiden. She peered calmly out.

Why does this topic belong in General Chat, but Things that are Awesome is spam? My what a pessimistic world we live in. :P

Why exactly do people always focus on "the horrors" of bottled water, when pop and most juices have all the same problems but are also bad for you on top of that?

Personally I don't see why people don't just reuse water bottles.

The issue here is the waste of plastics, not the health issues so much.

The plastic in the water bottles have some trait that makes it dangerous to continuously use it for long periods of time (more than a few days).

Here's the full organization:

You created the Things that are Awesome thread in the spamzone, nobody moved it there.

There's no way the plastic in water bottles makes the bottles dangerous to use for long periods of time - they have a shelf life of years, and there's no way the bottle'll survive abuse for that long. Besides, I've been refilling water bottles for years and it hasn't killed me yet-- *hurk*

Also, pop and juices come in plastic bottles too. Every bit as much a waste of plastic as bottled water.

I'm curious to know though, how water has an expiry date...

Yeah, that's always baffled me. "Natural mineral water, filtered through the rock for millions of years! Best before, two years' time." Huh?

Ah, but you see, that's when the mind-control meds expire.

IT'S CONSPIRACY THEORY TIME!

:P

I know that there were a lot of plastics used that were unsafe for consumption (bisphenol A etc.), but that they've all been eliminated. Of course there's no way to be absolutely sure, but I'll take my chances.

Personally, the only bottled water I really drink is the watercooler stuff, and I know they pick those ones up and reuse them when you're done.

Well, bottled water is a necessity in some places. In India and all, you can't just drink tap water. The water contains coliforms, dirt etc. and is in no way safe for human consumption. We have a water purifier at home ('cause if we drink tap water directly, we will all land up in the hospital), and sometimes even boil the water. If the water tastes bad even then (sometimes there is mixing between the water and sewage lines. Seriously.), then we buy big 5-litre bottled water as they are definitely safer. In some other cities, the water inherently tastes bad- no matter what you do. They use water purifiers (which still leave behind some of the taste) or directly buy bottled water for daily consumption. When we went to Singapore, we had asked for a bottle of water in the hotel. A guy came to our room and told us that water was already available and pointed to the bathroom tap. Well, all I can say is we didn't feel one bit comfortable to drink that water. Though it tasted way better than what we get at home. It just seemed so weird.
Yeah, I guess there is little need of bottled water in the West and a few other countries, but it isn't 'horrible' for everyone. It is a pretty useful product. If the government can't provide it, at least let the companies do.

:D I can drink directly from the tap, but my family still installs a water purifier and we do boil water daily. It's more of a precaution than anything, because the water in Singapore is pretty safe. And for some people, it feels gross drinking directly from the tap.

(Psst, n&b, which hotel did you go to?)
