Here are some puzzles from my homework assignment last night: 1) Four explorers must cross a wobbly rope bridge to get back to their camp for the night. But they have only one flashlight, and the batteries are low. In 17 minutes the flashlight will no longer work. The bridge is too dangerous to cross in the dark, and it can support only two people at any given time. Each explorer walks at a different speed. Ex. A can cross the bridge in 1 minute, Ex B in 2 minutes, Ex C in 5 minutes, and Ex D in 10 minutes. How do the explorers make it across in 17 minutes? 2) You are right next to a river and have a 5 liter container and a 3 liter container. You need to measure out 1 liter of water. How do you do it? 3) A farmer has to get a satchel of corn, a chicken, and a fox across a river. The farmer is only able to bring one of the above itmes along with him at a time. The only problem is that if he leaves the fox alone with the chicken, the fox will eat the chicken, and if he leaves the chicken alone with the corn satchel, the chicken will eat the corn. How does the farmer get all 3 items across safely? Edited by SevenPentacles, Apr 9 2010, 07:24 PM.

1) Spoiler: click to toggle 2) I'm going to assume you meant "how do you measure out one litre of water", because a gallon is 4.546 litres... Spoiler: click to toggle 3) Spoiler: click to toggle

Yeah, I got the one you said and one more. But that involved a marker, so it doesn't count. The one Sent said was confusing. |

That is rather simpler, yes. I just said the first thing that came into my head. |

Well, there is another one about a 5 litre and a 7 litre can. And that you must get 6 litres of water measured. That was like the one you said- fill the 7 litre can and pour it in the 5 litre can. You then pour the 2 litres from the 7 litre can into the 5 litre one. Then you fill the 7 litre can and pour water from it into the 5 litre can. You have 4 litres in the 7 litre can which you put in the 5 litre can. Fill the 7 litre can and with that add the remaining 1 litre in the 5 litre can. You end up with 6 litres in the 7 litre can. |

Stewardesses ' is the longest word typed with only the left hand. 'Lollipop' is the longest word typed with your right hand. TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard. The average person's left hand does 56% of the typing.' Dreamt' is the only English word that ends in the letters 'mt'. That there are only four words in the English language which end in 'dous': tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous. There are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: 'abstemious' and 'facetious.' |

Aren't there only like five words that end in "-gry"? Aggry, Angry, Gry, Hungry, Puggry? |

"Aggry" only appears in dictionaries as the compound "aggry bread"; it's not a word in itself. Angry and hungry are the only two others in modern English (though I believe there are a few archaic words). Incidentally, it's suggested that the puzzle commonly stated as "angry and hungry are two of the three words in the English language ending in gry, what's the third?" is actually accidentally derived from the same thing with containing instead of ending, to which the (or possibly an) answer is "gryphon". |

I'm not sure if this one has been on here. I didn't feel compelled to read all 16 pages. Only certain items can go through the Green Glass Door. For example, a boot can go through the door, but not a shoe. A kitty can go through the door but not a cat. What else can go through the door? |
