i actually read an interview where JKR said words to the effect of 'i liked the scene when Slughorn came back with the Slytherin reinforcements'. i re-read the whole chapter and it said no such thing. and as you said, there might be more, but it's stupid that out of the whole Slytherin population, not a single one stayed beind (except the ones she told us about, rather than actually showing us in the book [a.k.a. show don't tell]). plus, not ALL of them are even purebloods. purebloods are said to be a dying breed, so there must be some half-blooded or perhaps even muggleborn Slytherins that wouldn't support voldemort's cause. why couldn't THEY stay and fight, or some of them. at one stage JKR talked about theodore nott, and it really sounded like he might have been a marginally decent or even nice Slytherin. but of course they cut that chapter in the editing process. lol, true. i'm not much of a fan since the only really strong hufflepuff character was cedric, who died, zacharias smith, who was a git, and justin finch-fletchley, who got attacked by the basilisk... so throughout the series i was like, canon fodder? but tbh i don't really like the houses thing all that much... so many characters exhibited qualities of more than one house, which makes it pointless. if they wanted unity in the school like dumbledore said, they should just get rid of the bloody things. but the gryffindor/slytherin rivalry does make for good drama. |

yup, ernie macmillan. i didn't list him because he never really had an important role. the series wouldn't be different if he was ommitted, you know what i mean? sure, he was brave and loyal for fighting in the final battle, but a heap of random Ravenclaws stayed too. they risked dying for a person they didn't even know. in my mind, him fighting doesn't make him any better than all those nameless Ravenclaws. but to be fair, the roles of Ravenclaw could have been fulfilled by Gryffindors too. we only had Luna/Cho that had significance, and they could have easily been slotted into Gryffindor. hence the reason i've always thought that the only houses that really necessary were Gryffindor and Slytherin. if you list the contributions of Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw, that couldn't be given by members of Slytherin/Gryffindor, you wouldn't come up with much. i just don't think they add anything to the story. anyway this is just my humble (also biased, but at least i'm admitting it :P) opinion. |

Well, the epilogue was nice, but it could have been better if it showed Harry and his family traveling off somewhere. The idea of Harry & co. traveling around the world seems exciting, but then again, it's not as exciting as Harry having to face off Voldy in the final battle. So in other words, they still get to live normal, yet not boring, lives. I could have liked the epilogue if the whole "happy family living happily ever after" thing wasn't so cliche though... |
