In The Amulet of Samarkand, Nathaniel makes his beloved scrying glass. He uses it to look at all sorts of things. The baby-imp has no trouble finding people it doesn't know, Mrs. Lutyens... Underwood... Bartimaeus. The Scrying Glass is able to "tell" where people are. It is able to tell that Underwood is in the Tower of London, when it is half a mile away. Which leads me to ask... Why doesn't Lovelace use a scrying glass to find out where Bartimaeus was during the first half of the book? Lovelace knew Bart took the Amulet, Faquarl and Jabor told him so. If a 12 year-old can make a scrying glass, why doesn't anyone in the whole Lovelace conspiracy have one? |

I guess he would have suspected Bartimaeus to kill the imp on site. That's what I would do. |

Yeah. And, did he know that it was specificly Bart that took the scrying glass? Besides, it's bound to be easier for you to find Bart if he's working for you, and wants you to find him. And Nat's no normal 12 year old. |

Yes, Lovelace did know Bartimaeus took the Amulet. Page 278-279 of Aos: "Because I know what carried out the raid. It goes by the name of Bartimaeus." and... "It was a bungler! It allowed itself to be identified!" So, yes. Lovelace did know that it was Bartimaeus who stole the amulet. Even though Bart probably would have eaten a scrying-glass imp if he noticed it, it seems strange that Lovelace doesn't even try to search for Bart's general location. |

All Farquals fualt, btw. <_< And Jabor too, i guess. And maybe lovelace thought he was above all that. Or just didnt even consider it. Scrying glasses are pretty elementry work. He was probably relying on his spirits. Ha! Someone beating Bart. |

lolz. I agree with the point of not thinking of it. Too childish for the "Great" Simon Lovelace. |

"Great" Phhhhhhbbb! Ha, but couldn't you use a greater type of spirit in a scrying glass? I mean if you had enough power, you could trap Farquarl in one and have the equivilent of a scrying telescope. |

yeah, but he probably never condsidered his defences being breached or defeated, which, ofc, only someone as amazing as Bartimaeus himself could do, and was caught in his blind spot. Plus as i said before, he prbably thought his deamons could take Bart anytime. BIG mistake there, bud.

Motto of this one: "Never underestimate anyone. Ever." Though you have to admit, between Jabor's brawn and Farquarl's brains and brawn, thats only underestimating a select few. |
