It is a good series. I think the film will never compare. If they make a bad film and ruin the series, I will personally be responsible for the deaths of everyone involved. |

I agree with everyone; the movie will suck as usual, no director has really made anything worth comparing to the novel. In fact, the Airborn writer has denied the script because it was so horribly written. Why can't all authors do that? Yup, the first book was great and the second one okay. But the third...makes me wonder how it stayed on the bestseller list for 6 months. Its like making a pyramid and suddenly screwing up the top bit. Doesn't look good. |

I totally agree with that. I really didn't like the later books, especially after the "dark matter is conscious" part. I liked the first one though. The trailer refers to the Magisterium wanting to control other worlds, and there being no Magisterium in other worlds, just to hide the fact that they are selling anti-religionist movies to American kids. It's the Church trying to control the world, and I'm sure there's a church in this world. They missed the point of the book I think. |

It would be fine if it was written, or screenplay done by the author. Pity that never happens, except in holes. They're ging to spoil it, aren't they. Hrrrrmmm. |

I'm going during the week. I'm actually quite optimistic about it; I saw the theatre adaption a few years ago, and that was amazing, so I guess the film could be good too. The book has plenty of material to work with, so the chances of the film being decent are higher than with some other books. Edit: Saw the film last night! It's very good, save for the ending. Quite loyal to the book, and the few times it isn't is making it more understandable for those who haven't read the book. |

^ Saw it yesterday, agree, it's about as loyal as lord of the rings (The movies aren't quite of the same standard) , It is a good film, if you like a flm where no one good dies and it all ends happily. I just hope they don't replace Will with Roger for the next two. I'm starting a "Kill Roger" campaign. Who's with me? I also agree with rubberchickenben, the movie actyually doesn't mention the magesterium being the church at all, they are said just to be a power who wanted to control every one. It is pretty obvious the way they wear catholic robes and all are called, father, brother or sister something though... |

True, true. I couldn't stand the ending. I'd join in the 'Kill Roger' - how else would Lyra have the grief and regret necessary to do what she does in AS. |

I hope they kill him immediately at the beginning of the Subtle Knife. It'll shock the audience. (And because of the huge box office gather in, there should be the second movie coming out) And where is the club? |

They said they already filmed the actual end where Roger dies, and that end does appear in the promotional books, but they did that so the end would be the best as possible. If the Subtle Knife is made then it'll be right at the beginning. Oh, and are you from the UK or US because in the US the box office takings are disappointing, especially considering the budget. |

England, England, England! All the way! Isn't that because the Americans insist that it's too atheistic, and are trying to censor it for that reason? |

Most Catholic boards in both Canada and America are banning the book because of its "clear atheist ideas". |

Uh, no. Some do, but a lot of us roll our eyes at them. We don't really listen to the church too terribly much, even if we are Christians. And not all Christians are Catholics; I'm not. Most people I've heard from either have no interest in fantasy, want to see something different (And who can blame them? There's loads of good movies out right now!), are broke, or heard that the reviews are bad. Of course, there is the occasional banning from parents or they killed God in there.... Yeah, those darn AP classes...thanks. |
