what are your opinions on the 2009 film coming out? I think it will work well as a film, but not as good as the book. |

The very much unconfirmed film that's been discussed loads all over the place? Honestly, we have no information at all other than that the film rights have been sold (to Miramax I believe) and they might possibly maybe release it in 2009 (which they won't). |

I don't see how they can make Barti into a movie. It just won't work. And then they'll just end up making a bad movie. |

Well, if they gave it the budget of Spider-man 3.... |

Spider-man 3 has the highest budget for a movie last time I checked. |

I think they can pull it off for less than $258,000,000. |

If they use talking animals for djinni forms it'll be hard. Have you seen Narnia....which some of it was pretty good...or, even worse, the trailer for the Golden Compass. Talking live action animals=laughs |

Most book-to-film conversions are rubbish. (LotR is a notable exception) It appears even worse if you're a big fan of the book. I think a lot depends on how the script is written; If that's good, then the film on the whole will be ok. AoS reads fairly realistically, so potentially the film could be amazing, if they stick to the book as much as possible. |

It depends on the script a lot yes. And then the actor's capacity to act and the director's ability to get what he needs from them. Then the effects need to be realistic. And the scenery should be breath-taking.... |

Meh, low budget films succeed through excellent dialoge mostly. Arthouse stuff are sometimes good. |
