I'm intrigued by the episode in which Kitty identifies Ptolomy's form to Bartimaeus and Bartimaeus uses Ptolomy's voice to ask "what do you know about me?" [I'm paraphrasing; please don't belabor me if I misquoted] Ptolomy stayed too long in the Other Place and was changed. I wonder if most of him remained there, and only a whisp of spirit came back to inhabit his body until he died. Perhaps he was subsumed into Bartimaeus and the Other Place. Doesn't it seem as if, in that part, Kitty really is looking at and talking with Ptolomy? After all, everything belonging to the other place is like a soup. Magicians had the bad manners to define the djinn, but the rest of them is back home. Perhaps Ptolomy is within Bartimaeus as more than a memory... Just some idle thoughts I had. I was curious if anyone else had thoughts along those lines. -Linda |

You say something. I mean Bartimaeus and Ptolomy liked each other so much so it's not inpossible...

Wow, that is pretty interesting, I never thought about that before. It sounds very plausible. |

Interesting thought, maybe that's why barti is more "human" than other spirits. |

There was more of Ptolemy in Bartimaeus than just his memories. Bart, has someone said correctly, is more humane. He has feelings for humans - I mean, he sometimes cares for his masters even though they are horrible to him ( like in Nat's case). He has a 'bond' with them. He still believes in Ptolemy's faith in the reunion of magicians & djinni, a belief which would have surely strengthened after Nathaniel & Kitty's sacrifice. |

He doesn't believe in anything, he's a cynical djinni whose one ambition in life was to escape magical service. |

Sorry to say, but I completely disagree. If Bart's intention was always to escape service, then why did he save Nat from the Golem? Why did he seek the displeasure of Nouda to save the skins of two teenagers? And we also get an insight of Bart's feelings. He says he would not mind doing anything for Ptolemy & Kitty. And after Nat's final gift, I am sure he would have done anything for him too. |

Character change in the end, yes. And he didn't lift a finger to save Nathaneil from the Golem. |
