Does anyone know what the heck a lamia is? It's mentioned several times on one page in #1, when Mr. Underwood is teaching Nat.

Well, according to Wikipedia...

* Lamia the Latin word for vampire or witch.
* Lamia, a city in Greece
* Lamia, a Greek mythological figure
* Lamiak (sing. lamia), a Basque mythological nymph-like creature
* Lamia, a mouse-like animal in New Guinea
* Lamia is a genus of beetles
* A poem by John Keats, available at Wikisource
* The name of the mother of the Libyan Sibyl
* "The Lamia," a song on the Genesis album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
* Lamia Loveless, a fictional character from the Super Robot Wars series
* Lamia was a recurring monster in the Final Fantasy series, often having a tiara in their possession to be dropped or stolen
* Lami is a character from Kyoryuu Sentai ZyuRanger, agent of Bandora and wife of Grifozor. The two have a human child at the end of the series.
* The Arabic word for "fiend."
* Lamia is the name of a character from Betterman.

Found that intresting, thought you might.

Yep.

There's individual articles for some of it, but they were kind of unrelated.

Like the Robot show thing...

"You belong in Gryffindor,
where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

I don't think we will ever find out, probably just a famous Djinn.

Perhaps I should read up on that section.

I thought it would either be the city from Greece or a spirit named after the mythological character.

But I looked it up and apparently it's a magicial creature that is soothed with music.

Probably like this:

Lamiak (sing. lamia), a Basque mythological nymph-like creature

"You belong in Gryffindor,
where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

Ahh, now that you mention that, I remember. Wasn't it his music teacher, not Underwood that mentioned it?

Edit: Yep, on page 61: ""How," Mr. Sindra yelled, "do you propose to summon a lamia with plucking like this? How? The mmind boggles! Give me that!""

Yep.

The fat, evil one. He's the reason I began to bond with Nat.

Certain music teacher parallel.

Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

There's a lot of those, aren't there?

Ok, the sasauage fingered, evil one.

There's a lot less of those.

Lamia wasn't capitalized, it is a type of spirit, not one spirit's name. Maybe some type of greater djinn, that for some reason is soothed by string instruments.

Yes, I added that after I looked it up.

I actually think it's a lower spirit, which is why it's soothed.

Nothing But The Rain

Probably a lesser subtype of djinni.

Maybe we should ask Mr. Stroud.

Because it could be the most powerful spirit (horribly unlikely) there ever was for all we know.
