Wammy is an idiot, and I recommend stoning. I don't think it's bad. As a person who has read a large book every two days and has been writing and looking at the mechanics of writing and talking to writers and sharing critiques for over seven years, I can tell you, that book is complete Cabbage, and it irritates me when some twelve year old says some ridiculous broad statement like 'ITZ THE BEZT BOOK EVA'. If it entertains you, fine, I don't care. If you say it's good, and especially if you say it's great, and especially if you say it's the best, I'm going to tie you to a whipping post and stone you. And no, Wammy, I'm not saying you're twelve, or that you think it's the best book ever, because I know you're going to make some post saying 'that's not me!' Eragon is not good. Horrible characterization. Cheesy plot where everything just happens to happen at the right moment and be in the right circumstances until abiogenesis begins to seem probable, though it was done SLIGHTLY better by George Lucas. Horrible dialogue from a kid who spent most of his life in an isolated mountain home reading books and watching movies and unable to tell which one is good and which is bad. The character actions are horrible. Mary Sue characters (look at me I'm Arya after weeks and weeks of torture I have a scratch on my jaw! look at me I'm Eragon the impoverished farm boy who hates dirt and has my own bed and room with wooden floorboards!) Not to mention the ridiculous inconsistencies only a nineteen year old person whose parents refuse to allow him social contact with others, with idiot parents in an idiot editor, could not discover, and ridiculous plot devices meant to be there to make Eragon cooler. |

That's not flaming. It's being blunt. You should have a rule against being offended just because people don't cover their posts with candy floss, or whatever you call it in Britain. |

I have to agree with Krim, here. I've written out a whole list of why Eragon is terrible, it's about two or three pages back, I believe. |

Amen. I also happen to be in a split class and there for have to listen to said twelve year old boys who say I "don't know a good book when I see one" because I read half decent ones with a plot and characters who aren't complete idiots. My reasoning is that they like it because they never bothered to read any other books and have only read this one because it has a dragon on the cover and has lots of 'fight scenes (poorly written clashes where main character blacks out at the end and wakes up on hard dry ground 'not remembering where he was last'). |

In fairness, this probably increases Eragon's IQ - subtract a negative number... |

Subtracting a negative number is adding a positive number. You guys might find yourself a place in my signature. And not in the catagory with the Djinni. |
