haha it's possible...but that doesnt mean that bartimaeus is actually more 'powerful' than Faquarl, he is probably just cleverer.

Faquarl died. If Gladstone (now Nat) could kill him I think Barti could too. Or something like that... ^^

Gladstone/Nat didn't kill Faquarl...The 2 or 3(I forget) Marids in the staff did.

But someone has to control those marids.

Stroud said that Faquarl and Jabor ranked slightly higher than Barti on the strength scale.

I believe that Barti is as smart as Faquarl, but craftier, and he's (obviously) more intelligent than Jabor.

Yes, but it takes considerable less power to controll the staff, than to actually summon the marids. That's why Gladstone made it, as he was getting older, and it was getting more difficult to summon/control spirits.

And still, to what Yakii said, Nat and Barti's power really doesn't have much to do with each other. Except for the fact that Nat must be a certian strength to summon Barti.

I agree with the above that it takes alot less power to control the Marids in the staff that it is to summon them...doesn't it take a few magicians to summon a marid?

Two average magicians, although a strong one like Gladstone (or even Nat) could summon a marid single handed without too much trouble.

Didn't Tallow summon a Marid on his own? But he had drawn the wrong pentacle because there was a mistake in his book. (probably from Jakob)

No...I beleive that was just an afrit...Just checked, and I couldn't find it...I think it says a little later in the book, and as much as I'd like to, I can't reread the entire book to find it...

It was an afrit. Barti said to... er.... Jakob! Yeah Barti said to Jakob that an afrit killed him.

I would have to say that I think that Bartimaeus is the stronger one, farquel may demonsrate more power but Bartimaues has more in reserve. I bet against I forgot his name the demon that killed Nate, but whatever, I think that farquel would have died so fast he wouldn't even had time to blink, but Bartimaeus survived how about that. Even though Nate unsummoned him at the last moment to release the staffs power, he and Bartimaeus were doing really well agianst demon dude. So in short terms Farquel SUCKS:)

Nouda? BTW, Nouda didn't kill Nate, the blast from the staff did.

When did Faquarl die, and Barti survive? Do you mean by the staff? If yes, the reason is that Nat killed Faquarl with the staff(Kinda like shooting him with a gun). Barti would have been killed just as fast in Faquarls place.

Mmm, exactly. Being bound into a body and co-operating with said body's original resident to use the staff gave Barti a lot more power - both being bound into the body repairing his damaged essence from too long in our world, and the sheer power of the staff. Faquarl, Barti, even Jabor would stand no chance against the staff.
