Luck? I don't know about that, but maybe great skill in dodging and evasion, with the occassional bit of luck. |

When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney. Something symbolic in that. It's what fake freedom does for you. | |

Occassionally. Besides, it really depends on which spirit you're asking. |

What? Bartimaeus is the spirit in question, and the scenario is him versus Varoq. |

Oh, well I was talking about Bartimaeus v Farquarl, which is the topic. There's another discussion for Bart v Verroq. What I meant by "it depends which spirit you're asking" was reffering to how much of Bart beating other spirits is luck. |

Depends on the spirit and circumstances, entirely. |

No, what I mean is that if you asked Bartimaeus, he wouldn't say all his escapes were luck would he? If you asked, say, Faquarl, he'd say the opposite. |

True. But neither is correct. Faquarl might be stronger compared to Bart, but the latter will win. Always. |

Or at least escape. But yes, Bartimaeus always owns Faquarl. |

Not even. He gets (pardon my 1337) pwned horribly by Faquarl. |

Yeah, once, but he comes back and kills him doesn't he? All the other encounters result in Faquarl looking stupid. |

Not really. He survives one of Jabor's spirited Detonations in the beginning, and is still running after Bartimaeus ( by then a Peregrine Falcon) with Jabor in time to get hit by a truck. He easily keeps up with Bartimaeus out of the London Tower, and still (apparently easily) tracks him to Nat's house. He's absent in GE, but in PG dispatches all of Mandrake's minions and (a weakened) Bartimaeus, all again with relative ease. I'm still going for Faquarl. I like Bartimaeus, but I'm a practical guy. |

Umm . . . no. I said, apart from that one time when Bartimaeus was weak in PG, Faquarl always ends up looking stupid. Hit by Jabor's own detonation (doesn't matter that he survived it), covered in petrol, set on fire etc. He doesn't actually track Bart to Nat's house, a search sphere does that. |

? Ok. Still you're missing my point. The topic is whether Bartimaeus is stronger than Faquarl or not. Doesn't matter if he ends up looking 'stupid', he's still strong. Look at Jabor. |
