My friend only read up to about page 30, and then warned me never to read it.

Sorry to say it, but there is really nothing good with Eragon from a technical view. At all. You might say, 'people shouldn't read with a technical view', but it's also a bad story either way.

1.) Derives from everything.
2.) Farm boy magically becomes best swordsman ever.
3.) Predictable plots.
4.) Writing most people admit is idiotically wordy and not interesting.
5.) Bland characters. Saphira is hardly an exception...'wise guide'. Meh.
6.) Nothing new.
7.) The Ra'zac are lame.
8.) The elves are lame, and vegetarian, and atheists. Sounds like a mixture of Paolini's attributes put into the 'fair folk'. Preaching about vegetarianism and attempting to be subtle with atheism? No thanks.
9.) It plain out blows.

There you are. Do you want me to get into the problems with his prose.

And your counterdefense:

'it's my personal opinion it's good'.

Yeah, fine, whatever. But if you're going to call the Inheritance Trilogy the best books ever...you must be reading some really bad stories. Try something good: Gormenghast is beautifully executed, but very slow-paced. What about George Martin? Why not Tolkien himself other than a cheap ripoff? Earthsea Trilogy, other than a cheap ripoff? Anything not by Dr. Seuss?

The elves aren't aethiests. They're scientologists. I've read other good books, sure. Bart tril. C.S. Lewis' books. Tolkien's stuff. But Eldest is just too good to be beat.

...You are hopeless. If you think Eldest is better than Bartimaeus, or somehow even TOLKIEN AND C.S. LEWIS, classic authors who will be remembered as long as literature lasts, compared to Paolini, who'll fade away unless he pulls off some unprecedented miracle or some random person finds the movie in a bin.

Seriously, why do you like Paolini?

He's awesome, he writes damned good, he's the youngest person to reach his level in the writing market, he knows his stuff, he made the stuff he "stole" 10 times better than it was...

Ok, just so you know, i do still love Lewis' writings...I've been a narniaFan since I was 3.

...You're honestly one of the most pathetic people I've met. Really. Especially your question about hair, which was plain idiotic. He is not a good writer. His age does not make him a good writer. He published through his parents and was selling his book door to door, and Knopf realized he could squeeze some bucks out of a mediocre story that plays off every good book in existence. He did not make anything ten time better. He is not a good writer. He has no technical skill. He cannot write decently. He never gave me any good imagery. He does not know his stuff. He's the youngest person to reach the market because Knopf marketed him as a prodigy and all the little kids who can't write but think they could looked to him. The writing community laughs at Paolini. Eldest was worst book of the year in an edition of Entertainment Weekly. The books are several hundred pages too long. He has an undeserved sense of accomplishment and refuses to listen to critics.

Live in your dreamworld where needless description attempting to mask a shallow plot and flat characters, the main character of which who is a farm boy (Luke Skywalker) who has to defeat a dictator (Luke Skywalker) and finds out that he is fighting a family member (Luke Skywalker). Want me to go on? Eragon pushes through any illness. He was magically healed and became an elf. It's utterly unmemorable.

I can go all day.

ok, i know it's like SW. i know almost everything about SW. Though, you only copied your stuff from Dushurtugals. Paolini never claimed to be a prodigy. only homeschooled. (i.e., smarter than the general population)

How does that determine your academic ability over the general population? That just another method of getting an education...

Please. i'm homeschooled. I know many PUBLIC schoolers twice my age who can't hardly read, write, do math, or think logically. Public schooling started with good intentions, but is now just a web of deceptions and perversions with no thought of the future.

And I go to a public school and am easily the best writer in the county, let alone the school. Possibly a good part of the state as well. I'm also smarter than most people my age, more well-versed, more educated, think logically, know math, read at an above college level, have an advanced vocabulary.

What?

And Knopf marketed Paolini as a prodigy. 'AN ASPIRING AUTHOR WRITES AN EPIC FANTASY. AND HE'S HOMESCHOOLED. AND HE WAS ONLY FIFTEEN!'

You can call yourself smart all you want, but you're really being a dolt.

I see my opinion has already been voiced in several different posts, but to summarize it:

1) It wasn't that spiffy of a book. Goot work for something that he started writing when he was fifteen, but wasn't overally great.

2) Wouldn't make a great movie. The whole thing is non-movie material. I suppose the advantage of a movie would be that you wouldn't have to deal with reading it, but you'd have to get a pretty spiffy script writer to pull this one off.

3) This may be off topic a little, but I also don't think that the Bartimaeus books would make good movies either.

4) Krim, do you mean you're the best writer in the county, period? Or are you discluding people who actually make a living off of writing?

I'll refrain from saying other things on the "Home schooled private schooled smarter-than-you" thing. Looks like they've already been said. But still, don't flame. It isn't kind. D:

I like Eragon, but sorry no, not my favorite books. I am anticipating the 3rd book, and I don't need to be told that I need a life.

Best fantasy writer in the county, at least for my age and most likely a few years up. Few people do make a living off of writing, anyway; if you're going to do that, you have to be very well-known and pooling in some pretty good moola. Writing isn't a very financially secure job.

And you know, if I moved to where Paolini lives, I'd be the best writer there as well. ;D Maybe I'm not the best writer in the county, but I doubt I'd meet any other teenager like me in Greenville. - strokes his ego. -

As for not being movie material, I believe Paolini said it was originally designed so it could be easily transformed into a screenplay.
