I don't think anyone awnsered this, so I'll give it a go. No, there aren't specific demons that can control specific elements. Demons might be able to control elements, but if they do, I think they'd be able to control any. |

Barti is a creature of fire and air I think. He can probably control that. And he created the fire for Nat in AoS amongst other things. Edit: Double Post!!

Yes, I think they can. Didn't Barti mention something like that in the first chapter of AoS? Sorry, can't look it up. Don't have book with me. And Rekhyt, Luciene's right. There's no need to double post when there's an edit button. |

Sorry, didn't word that too well. When I went to edit it, the BTW had gotten wrapped up in the quote, and I didn't want to really screw it up, so I didn't try and fix it. Next time I'll try and fix it. I'd forgotten about him creating the fire. Maybe they do have specific elements they can control. |

Yep, page 7. "I waited grimly for the pathetic request. What would it be? Levitating some object was a usual one, or moving it from one side of the room to another." |

i don't know where people got that marids are spirits of water from, because it doesn't say that anywhere in the trilogy. all spirits from the other place are of air and fire. golems are of the earth, and therefore they negate the magic of demons. someone said that djinn can control fire. they can create it i.e an inferno, but they cant really control it. as to levatating things, i dont think they can just levatate things with their mind. thats stupid. they must just perform some sort of illusion. i dont think demons can control any of the elements as someone said, but if you remember Ramuthra can distrort the elements. |

It describes marids as "powerful spirits of water". |

Thank you, Sentynel. I think it could be possible for a spirit to levitate something, likely by manipulating the air around it (if they can do that mcuh, and discussion in it's own right), but they could also move it themselves while invisible. But, by the way he says it, I think Barti implies that spirits could move it while seperate from it. So. I think they can actually levitate and move things without touching them. By what mechanism is another discussion as well. |

sentynel, can you tell me where exactly in the books it says that? i'm sure it doesn't - or i can't remember where it does. with the levatating stuff, i see your point dansariki, but if bart can levatate stuff while seperate from it at his own leisure, why does he not use that ability anywhere in the books? i think he can only levatate things if it's part of his charge, by means of being invisible (as you said) or some type of illusion. |

It could take a good deal more energy than he'd like to use. Or, he can only do smaller things. I see your point though... Could be he just grows an additional limb, makes it invisible, and moves stuff around with it. Weirder things have happened. |

I'm afraid not; I don't remember where exactly. Marids are certainly water spirits in Arabic mythology from which most of the spirit types are drawn, and I'm positive they're described as such in the books. |
