I feel really stupid asking these questions but here I got: :new:

1. Do demons have specific powers? Like so and so is a demon of fire while so and so is a demon of rain and wind?

2. This is a biggy, I understand that magicians can us defensive magic on their demons, shocks and blasts, but in the books magicians used Plasmas and other thingys on OTHER magicians? I am kinds lost their?

3. Can demons move through the planes after they are summoned? Or what plane they are summoned on is the plane they are stuck on?

Thanks for the clear up! :magic:

Welcome to the forums. :welcome:

1) Djinni are air spirits, afrits are fire spirits, and marids are water spirits, but this doesn't appear to limit their powers - they all use the same sort of attacks.

2) It's debatable. Some say they can use magic on other humans to some extent, while others say they have invisible or bound djinn to cast the spells.

3) They can see any planes within their power to see. Humans can only see the first plane, but magicians wear contact lenses allowing them to see up to plane four.

Where does it say marids are water spirits? I don't remember that. Also, Bartimaeus mentions he is a being of "fire and air" several times throughout the trilogy. :hmm:

Yes, he does mention Djinnis being demons of fire and air.

He also mentions Marids being demons of water, probably in AoS?

Don't
lenses only show planes 1-3, not 4???
Djinni are air and fire, afrits are fire, and marids are water. Are
there earth spirits though? Because golems aren't spirits. And what
about imps and foliots?

Lenses show the fourth plane dimly.

Golems are earth. There are no earth spirits.

I think imps and foliots are like djinni, just weaker.

Actually, no. I said that. Marids were left pretty unsaid in the book; so I spent an hour looking up Arabic Myths in the Wikipedia and Encarta ect.

See? I'm authoritive.

I'm fairly certain it mentions 'marids - powerful spirits of water' in the book, too.

I would presume its either in AoS or GE. Ive leant out AoS....and I couldnt see it in any footnotes in GE. Bartimaeustrilogy homepage says:

Quote:

Marid — The most powerful rank of demon normally called to work under a magician's service. They radiate so much power that it's possible to track their movements by following a residual magical trail.

And it says Afrits are demons of fire.

If Afrits are spirits of fire, that would explain why the Djinni attack on Honorious had no effect, its like trying to stop a wave with a watergun...
I dont remember reading anything on Marids being water spirits. When I was reading the books, i got the impression that demons were many different elemtns. Bati was Fire and air, but there could also be other djinni who were water and earth..
Why would there be no demons of the earth element?

Well then, according to that, Marids are Djinni, and Djinni can be any of the four elements...do you think thats what stroud was aiming for?

How can marids be djinni? I thought they were a higher level, and were stronger.

And what about afrits? I'm guessing the same rules apply.
